not bad. I have a group and we go to a bar near Honolulu that plays LSU and Saints for us. We did it for the Bama and A&M game. We also watched a few saints games when they played at night. Sometimes for the bigger games for LSU I just stay in my room watch cause I get nervous and rather watch it alone. Last year for Auburn I woke up at 7am and started drinking in my barracks and watched the game cause it started at 8:30 Hawaiian time. Remember that the time zone makes it hard sometimes. so if LSU plays at 11 then you have to wake up at 5am lol.

Honolulu Oahu is the least different from a medium sized city in mainland plus you get most of the pluses.

Glad for you.

A lot of native peoples do poor as a way of life.

The races are polarized.
Japanese superior.
There are descendents of Puerto Ricans brought in to work fields. They are integrated with natives.

Pop for a language course on Hawaiian.

If the money is even halfway decent, then go. If you don't like it, you can always come back. If you don't take it, you may regret it later.

If you take it and like it, then "Aloha."

Granted I do get free living cause of barracks but its not that expensive on Hawaii like people make it out to be. It doesn't cost a cent to put my arse on a beach every weekend, you never have to pay a dime for entertainment here with the beaches and trails. Gas is more expensive but the island is so small that you fill up a lot less often.

I always chuckle at the number of losers on this site that can’t find a job in Louisiana and have to move

Yeah they've got apartments and houses for rent for reasonable prices that I've found. I'd likely have my truck shipped and fill up once per month, twice max.

I lived there for 3 years (non-military) for work. If you are making 6 figures, you will have a blast and enjoy yourself. Anything less than that, you will still have a good time but be prepared to live in shitty areas.

The lower you go in the socio economic classes in Hawaii, the more they hate haoles.

Bout three-fiddy. Just kidding - I've done it a couple of times through the years, it's around 2K to 2500, depending on if you drive it out to LA on your own, or ship it from home....

It's going to be hard to get married there if that's your goal in life. There are a lot of military members who are looking for something, and the local population may or may not be your thing, but often aren't super into mainlanders

You're young and single - don't look back 20 years from now and say "what if". Do it, and if you don't like it, move back. I've been on Oahu for six years, and love it. Housing is expensive if you have a family, but you should be able to find a decent apartment in town no problem. The locals are awesome (some moron earlier said the locals are racist, not the case at all FWIW -sure there are some assholes, but most are some of the best people around).

My only complaints - traffic sucks, and it's expensive to fly home to see family, etc...

You hit the nail on the head here. Yea, stuff is more expensive there, but you have so much free entertainment that it somewhat makes up for it. Real estate is still stupid expensive, though.

Natives can be pretty shitty to mainlanders in my experience

I experienced a nasty bout of this within an hour of landing in Maui. But then not really again for the remaining 10 days (at least, didn't notice).

But yea, find yourself in the wrong café, with the wrong crowd, you might wish you were in a semi-rough N.O. neighborhood instead.

I'm in the Army (there's one other Army poster on here as well). DoD is a major employer out here - both uniformed and civilian folks. Tourism obviously is the largest industry. There's some agriculture, but not much. Other than that, it's retail and services.
