The worst that would happen is you're stuck on an island in the middle of the Pacific.

It’s true to some extent, but if your nice then they’re nice. They meet some real arse-hat tourists that give people a bad rep.

Do it. You only live once and should have a lot of fun.

anyone who gets a chance to live in hawaii for a while should do it. its one of those places where its worth the risk try it even if you think you may not really like it

Absolutely, yes, do it. But I would only want to do it for 2-3 years.

I would take it. Spend some years in a beautiful place. If you have to come back then LA will be mostly the same as you left it.

Only non tourist, at least that's what my roommates from college said. They grew up there and basically said if you are white and try to live there, they hate you.
However, I have a friend who manages a very large farm and has no issues whatsoever, but he does have somewhat of a connection with locals around his area as his wife of 2months(before she died) was Hawaiian

Wherever it is that you live, it isn't going anywhere and you can always move back. Take the job.

i would seriously consider it.
i like to think that i’d take the opportunity.

Sure/ Moving to Hawaii for the short term would be great for a single guy. Why not? Live simply and enjoy the natural wonder. I'd think it would be a no-brainer as long as you aren't a stay-in-your-apartment kind of guy. There is a reason people spend thousands of dollars just to get there.

Buy a surfboard and go meet Dog the Bounty Hunter
If you need any prep, just watch the Southpark episode about Hawaii

Depends where you'd work on the island. The cost of living isn't more than living in D.C., New York, or Chicago. The main reason people complain about the cost, is because the poverty is so rampant. Locals really struggle to make a wage, and their work ethic is lacking.
It's going to suck to ship your car out, so maybe just sell it & buy one on the island.
Have lived & worked on Oahu. Definitely go.
You'll get claustrophobic at times, because you realize you're on an island.... That'll pass.
Spend time up on the North Shore, and get familiar with local families.

I’ve lived and worked a few places abroad and would do it again if it were the right place. Hawaii is a good vacation, but I’m assuming you don’t know anyone there. It will be expensive to travel anywhere and you’ll be very limited to what you can do on the islands with a bunch of tourists. It’ll get old, trust me. If it’s the only opportunity you have, I’m sure you won’t regret it, but if you want to do something fun, see if they can send you to a major city in Asia, Europe, or the Middle East.

Not married, no kids, not a ton of immediate family. I think you answered you're own question. Someday you'll have those and wish you would of. Worst case scenario you move home and have a cool cultural experience to leverage.

There are no active volcanos on Oahu. Hawaiians are far less racist toward Haole than they are toward the overwhelming number of Japanese tourists...

Here is a serious answer for you.
I was offered a position in Oahu and was serious enough about it that I spent the money to buy a plane ticket and go over there for a few days to check it out.
There is a reason the position is open. The cost of living, especially housing, is astronomical. Go into it knowing that you have the choice of A. living in a shitty efficiency apartment somewhat near to work, B. living in a decent apartment/condo and commuting hours a day*, C. tapping into your OT Trust Fund Account and spending a million + on something decent in town. Those are your housing options. Car, gas, insurance expensive as frick. $750k will literally buy you a crack house that needs work.
*Commuting hours a day seems counter intuitive on a relatively small island until you realize that the decent housing is on the other side of the island and the ring road / major roads are a traffic nightmare that makes Baton Rouge traffic look like amateur hour.
Not saying don't do it but I am saying to take the time to look into it. I thought it was the move for me until I went there. Glad I didn't take the position. The living situation was the clincher for me. That might not be high on your priority list.
