re: JDPower: Consumers don’t like newer cars as much; thinks they are getting worse

A lot of cars I have been in have knobs that do overall temperature, but you have to go through menus to do the higher end functions. Maybe they mean that, or maybe Tesla?
Pretty amazed that several posters chimed in agreeing with him without saying Tesla.

The temp is on the main screen, you don't need to go into multiple menus as you can do it from the main screen.
That's why I replied questioning which cars fit that criteria of multiple clicks in the menu to do something as simple as changing the AC. Not saying no cars do this, but I don't think there' been a reply with an example of a car that does this.

Sounds like you bought the optional dominatrix package.
It’s more like a Jewish mother in law package. Instead of the low tire pressure signal on the dash a voice comes on and says “you drive my grandson on these tires? When were they even last rotated? Should I just call triple A for you now?”

Wife got a new Mazda last year. Their implementation of Android Auto/Car Play was no touch screen. They use a dial and joystick setup in front of the center arm rest. At first I was like "This sucks just give me a touch screen". Mazda implemented this because they had studies showing how touch screens pulls yours eye from the roach much more then using buttons/dials. Still didn't like it but eventually using it became second nature. After a year of using it, I had a rental car last week with a traditional touch screen. I gotta give credit now to Mazda. I Originally bitched about the system but after getting used to it I have to say they were 1000% right now much more the touch screen takes your eyes off the road. Now I wish I had that Mazda system in all my cars.
Wife always has a newer car. I drive a 2005 Sequoia or a '96 2 door Tahoe. I'm rocking a bluetooth cassette adapter in both.

I would be curious to know how many people would rather a cheaper vehicle without all the current technology features vs how many people would prefer to not have a cheaper vehicle in order to have all the current features.
I would agree with all of this. I have an 08 silverado, and it doesn't have any tech in it. The only thing I wish I had in it was bluetooth to play music. And that can easily be solved by buying an aftermarket radio. One of the thing i've noticed, is that it doesn't appear that you can swap out factory radios because of the big screens, and how intertwined they are with the operation of the car/truck.

Mine as well. Just open the doors and hose it out when it needs it. No electronics to be of concern.

I'm still waiting for a car manufacturer that will let me build a new vehicle with the options I want from the ground up. I'm talking engine variation, suspension, amount of sensors for diagnostics, exhaust variant, infotainment options, safety features, frickin everything. You can do it when you build a home, why not a vehicle?
Guess I'll have to continue building my own at home.

2009 RAV4 - V6 engine that had great pickup even though the body creaked like all hell
2023 Corolla Cross - Well built in all respects but the pickup is terrible

I have a 2016 Mazda. The touch screen works when the car is stopped. Otherwise you have to use buttons or wheels. It becomes second nature quickly

You’re going to be waiting a while. Probably forever.

My dad still has the first one you pictured. 1995 Z71. He just drove it from Memphis to Bossier City. That truck is a tank.

I don't know of a single car that doesn't have physical controls for the AC. Are you just imagining this since you haven't been in a new car since the 90's?
I had a Volvo xc90 as a loaner once and I think it was pure touchscreen.
I'm not like most of the guys in this thread, yearning for a 15 year old vehicle with no modern features, but that Volvo experience was a total disaster.

I hate all the safety nannies: blind spot warning, lane departure, accident avoidance, etc.
Blind spot warning doesn’t bother me because motherfrickers here LOVE to drive in a blind spot. The others I could do without.
