“There was not any suggestion by anybody .. that Mardi Gras would pose a risk to public health because of #coronavirus."

In other words, Trump’s fault.

He’s been lobbying for national coverage for a week, and now he’s getting it. Now the whole country gets to partake in those movie star looks and articulate delivery.

LOL. Can you imagine the shitstorm if Trump had suggested cancelling Mardi Gras?

Trump talks to all of the governors every day. It’s a conference call.

I mean New York didn't GAF that long ago

Italy literally had people hugging Chinese people in February

quote:

The mayor of Florence, Italy,
@DarioNardella initiated "hug a Chinese" on Twitter on Feb 1, opposing anger toward China amid the #nCoV2019 outbreak, and calling for "Unity in this common battle!" Many Italian netizens responded by posting photos of themselves with Chinese.

The "woke" people get to be on the "wrong side of history" and get protection from the media. Trump ordered a lockdown on tourist from China and got called a bigot for it. And now all they care about is the term he uses for the virus

I’m not even blaming anyone for not canceling Mardi Gras. It would have been a terrible no-win situation. But NOLA is catching blame for hosting this big virus sharing party, and it just sucks hearing him try to blame someone for what happened.

Correct. It’s inane to try and blame anyone on any side for this. It was just a perfect storm of awful timing. Nobody was canceling Mardi Gras under any scenario at the time.

DC had a big Mardi Gras party with 4000 people from Louisiana a month before NOLA Mardi Gras.

Maybe that’s the catalyst

He isn’t wrong. Unless Trump is a dumbass or he has the worst people reporting to him ever. It is crazy that with all of our intelligence this was a surprise to the White House.

How did you get "Trump's fault" out of this?

My first thought was that he was referring to the CDC or someone who works in this specific medical field.

At the time there was nothing suggesting that Mardi Gras should have been in question at all.

JBE is right.

I don’t see it as a criticism of Trump. It’s just the way it was. No one believed Mardi Gras should be called off.

What politician doesn’t try to be a camera hog? They all are.
This is a nothing burger.

You think New Orleans would have listened to Fauci and pulled the plug in it?

This is an utterly pointless discussion.

There's nothing in JBE's statement to infer that he's blaming the government. JBE is a drama queen but this isn't one of those cases.
