You don’t negotiate with terrorists. You don’t give them power by surrendering to fear. You don’t bow to evil men because standing up is difficult. You don’t surrender your freedoms for the illusion of security.

That lift saved so many lives.
I think his plan to was to zoom around the quarter, kill as many as possible. Then hop out, shoot into the crowd then blow himself and the truck.
Instead he hit the lift, he was dazed, the cops were on him quick and he didn’t even get to detonate his explosives.
I also think he was planning to do it earlier when the street was more packed after the explosives placed by his accomplices went off around midnight. They would go boom, police would rush there, then he would find his opening to start driving. When they malfunctioned or didn’t go off, he waited and drove around until he finally found the opening he took at 3:00am when thankfully the streets were a lot more empty

But you do postpone the Sugar Bowl to ensure more don't get killed. Some things are just common sense regardless of what we've been brainwashed into believing since 9/11.

Folks are overreacting here… he’s obviously trying to show people that it’s safe to get out in the city

I made the mistake of turning on Fox and am listening to an expert talking about how NOLA officials “ failed” to establish a “ fail proof perimeter “ for the “ event “ and I am absolutely none of them have any familiarity with New Orleans.
The fact is that evil people are everywhere, risk is inherent with life in a free country, and any one of us could plan and execute a mass casualty event at a thousand different places any time our sociopathy/ ideological zeal demanded it. I bet at this very moment, if you thought about it, you could plan a mass casualty event at a place within one square mile of where you sit.
We have to accept the risk of life. And we have to accept human nature, which includes the inherent evil around us. This is what being a ( mostly) free country experiences when we live among other human beings with free will. And no perfect security or absolute personal safety is possible.

This. Of all the things to bitch about. We tough talk about “letting the terrorists win” and then bitch because the governor goes and has dinner.

And he’s a dumbass for framing in this manner when there were still mangled corpses on Bourbon Street.

That's the way I took it...
Lots of folks rely on tourism for their living.
Not minimizing the loss of life at all...

You are correct
I haven't been to Bourbon at night in years. If they had the streets blocked, could he still have gone on the sidewalk? They don't extend that far, right?

You heard Landry, getting that area back open is of upmost importance

Jesus...
Nobody is negotiating. Just saying that you can respect the dead without giving into evil.

Absolutely. We are an irrational people living in a rational society, shite is going to happen.
My belief is government cant protect us, its on us to protect ourselves. I blame the perp, not "larger society." Thats what progressives do.

There are restaurants and other businesses depending on tourists this week; it’s a tough needle to thread but no one benefits from folks sitting in their hotel rooms at this point.

This was 100% preventable as it happened. Could something not involving a vehicle still happen? Yes. But this could’ve easily been prevented. To say otherwise is foolish

It easily could have been prevented on Bourbon street; impossible to prevent it everywhere though

Correct, but it happened on Bourbon. I lived in DC for so long that those bollards just became normal everyday life. There’s no excuse to not have those bollards on the side walk which would allow pedestrian traffic but would stop vehicles. Those permanent bollards can stop a damn dump truck

He had a detonator with him that malfunctioned. Those bombs across the French Quarter from Bourbon Street, the Cathedral, to JAX Brewery were all supposed to be plan A to kill as many as possible. They were filled with plastic explosives and nails. Those didn't explode at midnight like they were supposed to so plan B was to drive the truck through crowds that remained then get out and start shooting.
I don’t believe any of this has been confirmed as facts except that there were other explosives placed around the quarter and he had the detonator on him.
Although, I do believe his plans were much bigger than mowing people down on Bourbon.
