There is a great autobiography from a surgeon about Charity hospital… a chapter of it focuses on this event and how this POS was firing into Charity hospital and blowing out windows in the operating room when they were trying to perform surgeries.
Title?

If you could give me the location of that, I'd appreciate it.

Do operating rooms typically have exterior windows?

Fun fact. He didn't wait around for approval and just put his helos in the air. They were shooting at the sniper with belt fed .50's from the helo. A clear no no. He gave no fricks. We need people like that today.
The story that was told to us that night (not by him) was that they tore up the roof with .50 cals til they ran out of ammo, RTBed to get more .50 ammo and returned.
Also, the Marine Corps was going to fry General Chuck until the city of New Orleans wanted to give him an award.
I cannot attest to the veracity of any of that.

Claiborne and I-10. Basically at the foot of the westbound on ramp.
The sign has been gone forver, the building and murals have been gone a few years. Think the owner of the business/building was one of those Black Hebrew Israelites. Tons of inflammatory shite all over the building.

I wasn’t around for this event, however, I’ve heard a story from family that their cousin was the or one of the negotiators with the sniper. When the news went with live shots and she saw the situation, she didn’t recognize her own son from afar (guessing distance/angle) and in speaking of the negotiator she stated, “That poor bastard’s mom must be a nervous wreck.”

Good. Glad it’s gone. Btw, this event is one of the earliest memories I have after moving to La as a small child.

I remember it being a big upset in my house.. I was 8.. 9 in a few days.. My dad wanted to go work Monday morning.. He worked on Baronne right off Canal St. My mom pitched a fit and told him no.. That was the first time my dad actually did something that my mom told him to do..
