note to self: don't frick with jaguars

This reminds me a little bit of an incident at the San Francisco Zoo about 15 years ago. Three guys were apparently throwing sticks and yelling at a tiger to get it to move. Imagine their surprise when that fricker jumped the moat and scaled the "unclimable" wall. It only killed one of them, but I bet the other two have never fricked with a tiger again.

To be fair, there's a lot more to the story. The wall wasn't as high as current standards required. Initial reports were that the kids (18 to 21ish, IIRC) were drunk and/or high and foriegn objects were found in the enclosure. It was right at closing time, so there were no other witnesses to the initial attack. In the end, maybe the tiger was just in the mood for something different for supper.

Have people always been this stupid?

Well, I don't know if I was in my right mind (20 and high before a rock concert), but we would go to Little Rock Zoo before rock concerts at Barton Coliseum. I think we were there for Van Halen in 1980 and went to the zoo to look at the cats. There was a leopard on the right side and to the left in another cage a Siberian Tiger. I repeat, we were young and stupid. I grabbed the cap off one my friends and threw it into the leopard's cage as a joke. It wasn't funny to the cap owner, so I said no problem, I'll get it back, and jumped over the rail and backed up to the wall between the cats, hoping the leopard would get bored with the cap and I could grab it and return it to the guy. Then I felt something touching my right hand - it was the tiger playing with me. For a couple of minutes I played with that tiger's paw like it was a house cat. It never got aggressive, never attacked me, just wanted to play. And I got the cap back, plus a guitar pick from Eddie Van Halen later on.

Stupid is as stupid does.

I never understood the reasoning behind euthanizing a captive wild animal. Poor Harambe
