The coastal region

Madison isn't bad. Public schools are good. House will cost you more. Much more tolerable if you don't care about keeping up with the Jones'.
I would also live on the Coast too. Certain parts/places are better than others.

I've lived in all 3 regions you've mentioned. Coast, north MS, extremely distant 3rd is anywhere near Jackson metro. Hancock County is an unnoticed gem by many. Close to a lot yet far enough away. Bay schools are quietly in the top 10% of the state.

If you're from SE Louisiana, you're gonna want to be on the MS coast. Culturally, it's most similar.
The suburbs of Jackson (Madison/Rankin counties) are nicer than Southhaven and Olive Branch. Even Jackson has some nice spots, but has far too many thugs and junior high level city leaders.
Mississippi is prettier than Louisiana, but has some backward state laws, whereas, Louisiana is a lot more sensible, and relaxed.

Just shot on the coast.

I like pretty much any coastal area.

Do you make the commute to New Orleans every day?
Posted on 6/11/17 at 5:19 pm to robertLSU
No, I've commuted to Michoud before...was doing that when Katrina hit. Didn't have to high-rise it though. I'd do it for a downtown job.

Jackson isn't that bad. Lived here for almost 10 years.
Cost of living is pretty low and crime is not nearly as bad as NOLA/BR (although this decapitation thing is...interesting...)

Can't really comment on the coast but I grew up in desoto county (olive branch/Hernando) and would choose it over Jackson proper in a heartbeat
Probably a coin flip between Madison and Hernando

Madison is a great place to raise a family

New Orleans is 50 miles from Bay St Louis according to the signs on HWY 90.

Yeah, a boring, conservative, cookie cutter neighborhoods in a very homogeneous environment.
Consider Ridgeland or NE Jackson if you want to live in this area.
Honestly, Memphis is getting a bad rap here. There are great places in Memphis and more to do.

I've heard Memphis isn't as bad as people make it seem.
Honestly, I'm quite content to live the small town life right now, coming from Baton Rouge and all it's traffic and crime. Yeah, the water is ugly and brown, but I can walk to the beach and rent a jetski, drive 5 miles up the beach and go to any one of half a dozen casinos, eat great food, and get back home to tailgate for an LSU game in 2 hours.
The one thing I do miss is that this area doesn't have some of the trendier things, like beer gardens and "nicer" grocery stores, like a whole foods. But hell, I lived a quarter century in Baton Rouge before those things came around, and I can live without them now, as long as I get to drive my Jeep down 90 along the coast any time I want.

Remind me, what do you do for a living again? I have seen you list this topic a few times. Having worked in all three areas, I would live in Ocean Springs. Spent a few years in Biloxi, and mainly chilled in OS. I don't swim in the ocean, so the MS coast would be perfect for me. Fishing, eating, drinking, and now you can go watch a baseball game at the Beau.

I just saw you're from Madison; didn't mean to be an a-hole; just my opinion.
