Back in the day the phone company would send out most of that information in these giant books.

I've always suspected that "opting out" just verifies that you are a real person and makes the data even more valuable.

Someone once started sending me texts pretending to be a cartel member. They listed out the info from one of those sites and threatened to send some guys to kill me unless I sent them money. I told them I was looking forward to putting my many guns to use in killing his putos. They stopped texting me.

How do you opt out? Not seeing on the website where I can do that.

It’s on the website, but takes some digging to find. I’d recommend just searching “opt out of FastPeopleSearch” and follow the direct links provided in the article.

If I know the last four digits of your SSN, it’s pretty easy to find the rest. If you’re born after June 2011 (or received SSN), it’s harder because they randomized it. If someone applied for SSN in Louisiana prior to late 1999 the SSN would begin with a “4”, and between late 1999 and 2011, the SSN would begin with a “6”. Guessing the first five digits gets easy, especially if the person was born after 1988. I do not have a Louisiana SSN (mine starts with a “5”)

I met a girl on a dating app about 5 years ago (last time I’ll ever do that) and she turned out to be absolutely insane.

We text chatted for a few days. I woke up one day to texts that she had had a dream about me. She named my dad and what he had died from and the date (apparently searched for and found his obituary), and that he told her to tell me to take care of my mom and named her, including her maiden name. She named kids and my siblings, where I had worked and lived for the last 20 years AND my current address.

I blocked her number of course. I called the sheriff’s dept and a lawyer who said there wasn’t much they could do unless she continued to harass me or came to my home. They said all or most of that was public information. It was scary as frick.

So that's how those motherfrickers who call me daily to sell my house got my cell number.

Edit: Damn, they have addresses I lived at when I was a kid.

Edit 2: Looking at the "Associates" section, there are only 3 people in that list I recognize. So that got that one wrong.

Edit 3: They also have a past employer as my current job.

but it still pisses me off how so much personal info of mine was just one simple google search away.

But yet you are likely the one who repeatedly typed all that info online. You input your own data every form you fill out.

There are a ton of websites like this so you'll have to do it for each one.

There might be some services that do it for you though.

Google has "results about you" that will help you remove this kind of info from online. They send you an email every week of info found and ask you if you would like it removed

Not sure how thorough it is but its free

We need to cry about Big Ballz.

Who cares all of your info has been leaked from various sources. Or that all of your tax info is mailed through the USPS who hire criminals that steal identities.

Yea. Go through 30 minutes to an hour of clicking answers to question only to have a box come up right at the end wanting you to enter your personal informant to get the results.

No wonder peoples [personal information is on the web.

These site are scams.

Guaranteed if you play it out to the end they want money to give you the info. After spending all that time going page to page clicking shite and answerin questions.

If you have a Discover card, they have a service that will scan the major sites for your info and will submit take down requests automatically.
