In some areas they don't have a choice. Either lock up stock or close the store.

Once Amazon can corner pharma they are going to lay pipe.

Walmart is transitioning into an Amazon, they are going to have to.

I was at a Walgreens in Omaha and they had 40% of their inventory locked up. The person working told me they are going to be about 60% when finished. Even the deodorant was behind Lock and key. Wtf.

I've encountered things like hair clippers that are locked up in Wally World. When I do, that's my cue to search for the item at Amazon and go ahead with the purchase (using the store's wifi because I'm a petty SOB). Usually, the price is identical, and Amazon will have it at my house within 24 hours.

Nowadays they don't need a key and an employee can open it with their Wally World phone.

How long before we see the store model that is basically a warehouse that employees (or robots) pick what you pick out on a screen in real time and bring your checked out order to the front, pre scanned.

Basically what happens now with online orders but in real time

ETA: holy shite, that's basically a digital version of the general store.

If they have to lock them up, that’s fine, just have someone available so I can grab my jimmy hats. Quit being a horrible retailer and forcing me to hunt down associates in unrelated departments so they can attempt to call in someone that can open a case after legitimately 25 minutes.

You get 5 min at best…I’m out after that. Amazon order placed.

I was in a store recently and all I had to do was scan the code and within 2 mins an associate came to help me. I was shocked it was that fast.

They’re shutting down most of the Self Checkouts also.I asked why and was told it was because of excessive thefts.
Only like 4 open and an employee watching like a hawk.
It’s sad that there are so many dishonest people.

I hate it and don’t even bother. I was at Home Depot a while back to get some romex cable, behind a locked gate….i needed it and hated that I’d have to wait around…then I noticed the lock was dummy locked. I grabbed what I needed, paid for it, and went on my merry way.
