Oil changes on your vehicle

Power windows, power locks, etc on vehicles. You could get a barebone full size truck for under 6k in 1980.
Home alarm monitoring service.
I remember having the online service Prodigy as a kid, think it was in the 80s.

Ironically the one thing that was common to pay for then that you don’t now is a public restroom. Used to be common to charge a nickel or dime to use a service station bathroom

About a year ago I stopped at a small store here in our town to get air. Put a quarter in the machine and nothing. Well, frick. Put another quarter in - same result. Went inside to tell them the machine ripped me off. They asked how much I put in, so I said 50 cents. They said “ Dude, it’s like 2 dollars”. What the frick ?

Bottled water. And basically just filtered tap water. The American consumer is stupid.

Bottled water! Never thought that would be a big thing.

There were oil changing places, they were called “service stations”… Just didn’t have the in and out oil changing places.

Not sure about "most" people using these, but everyone that does pays for them.
Services such as Door Dash and Shipt.

An album in the 80s was around $8 which is like $20 today.
True and new cds can be $25 and records $40.
Streaming is cheaper than buying physical media.

Paying people to pick up dog poop out of their yard. I'll never understand that.

someone to change your oil
someone to wash your car
someone to cut your grass
I saw a kid advertising to put up Christmas lights yesterday....pretty good idea actually b/c kids don't get hired to cut grass as much as they did when I was young. and I don't like putting up seasonal decorations. OR I don't like putting them up, and then my wife looking at them and having all sorts of changes

I can't get the economics to work in my head. There can't be THAT much dog shite to pick up.

Air, at a service station.
There's a gas station near me that has free air. All of the others charge $2-3.
There is always a line of crappy cars at the free air station. And guess what? After they get their free air they go into the store and buy a bunch of snacks, tobacco, lottery tickets and $10 on pump four.
The guy who charges for air made two bucks.
The guy who gave it away for free made twenty.
