Well Italy has been on absolute draconian lockdown for a bit. They’re hoping numbers actually plateau and slow down.

If Italy is a barometer for the rest of the world, this could be a catastrophe for older people. Especially older men who make up 70% of the fatalities.

I really have no words for the daily #s out of Italy anymore. I just feel for all the people there having to deal with it and pray to god we never see anything like it here.

Italy only started taking serious measures a few days before the rest of the world, but they had way more disease clusters bc of their Chinese workforce.
Also we’re still only 9-10 days into their lockdown. Between the incubation period and symptom progression death happens about 18 days after getting the virus. So they’re still about a week away from peaking death wise.
Also Italians live with their old people they don’t put them in homes or have live in help. So it spreads from quarantined young people to their parents/ grand parents

The disaster that happened in the Washington nursing was a very early warning of what is to come for older people. Italy is proof that that warning was legitimate.

Same. This seems to point to the virus being in the country and spreading very early in this process, to where most of the spreading damage was done prior to the government being able to take action?
The area around Milan is fairly wealthy and they have good access to healthcare, so this isn’t a case of poor living conditions or overpopulation. It’s just a catastrophic set of events.

It’s strange. It’s not population density or age as the rest of the EU isn’t dealing with this level of severity.
The only thing is the influx of Chinese workers/tourists.

I think they had a large number of people from Wuhan that worked in Italy. By the time it really exploded they had run out of critical equipment like ventilators.
