I feel like flattening the curve won't even stop this thing. They need a cure and they need a cure now. Otherwise this thing is gonna keep soaring. They could very well hit over 100,000 deaths before this is all over

I hope and pray im wrong but none of this looks encouraging to me right now.

But Italy will continue to face a high death toll because of the at risk people that are currently being treated

And they don’t have sufficient space and ventilators. Italy appears to be a prime example of hospitals being overwhelmed.

The flatten the curve mentality was never about stopping the virus, just about not overwhelming the healthcare system.

It's not the new cases that are concerning. It's the fact that the mortality rate is keeping pace.

I’d say it’s both. Their medical system is overrun so they aren’t able to provide adequate care for everybody, hence the death rate. Their system will continue to be overrun as long as new cases are forming at this rate.

Correct. You'd expect the same amount of people to get infected either way but you'd at least have a fighting chance to treat the critical patients

It is the oldest or 2nd oldest population and they like to smoke. The numbers shouldn't be surprising.

They also all live under one roof. Like 2-3 generations
So there is a very fair assumption that maybe the younger people who live in the same house had no symptoms and gave it to the older people
Add that into their crappy healthcare etc etc

I very well could have the virus, my grandma lives 700 miles away. Only person who’s gonna get it through contact is my fiancé. And neither of us could know.

Again it takes days, sometimes up to a week, for test results to come back.

It takes weeks, sometimes over a month, for the virus to run its course and people to either die or recover.

The numbers won’t start to reflect an actual decrease in spread for about two weeks after that decrease starts.

Also, the curve is flattening. Italy has been treading water for about a week now, it’s just not decreasing yet

Soon Italy will be full of people who had it and go over it. Then they’ll be immune. Hoping to be one of those myself.

The thing that is sad is that I guarantee you most of these people who are dying are relatively conservative / nationalist Italians who were helping to stem the tide of leftist politicians flooding their country with African / Muslim migrants.
