I wonder where you get 1000 octopuses?

TIL octopi is no longer as common.

Octopuses: The correct English plural form and the most widely recommended choice in writing and speech.
Octopi: A common variant, but it is historically incorrect because it treats the Greek root as a Latin second-declension noun.

Didn't we just have a thread about some country having too many crayfish? Now blue crab?

These threads are pissing me off.

Or, they could come up with a dish using blue crabs that is better than calamari. Shouldn't be too difficult.

This type of story always ends up with a bad ending. Like something they didn't anticipate happening seems to always happen

This has happened with mongooses more than once. They brought them into Hawaii to kill rats and the rats are nocturnal and mongoose aren't so they never actually ran into each other

They tried in Japan to kill pit vipers but same issue. Instead they started eating rabbits and other rare species

The Octopuses are just as likely to eat more clams and other shelled animals then blue crabs. They don't like warm water, which is why there are blue crab in the first place.

Has mild disaster written all over it

same. They are in many cases the sentient equal of humans in how they perceive themselves and their environment. No more octopus for me

They are gonna have to stop eating octopus like it is going out of style before they can make a dent in the blue crab population.

Like really, who puts octopus on pizza? Countries on the Adriatic, that's who.

I can't eat octopus anymore after learning how smart they are. Things have really good memories and emotions. They grieve the dead. It's wild. Like eating a German Shepherd. Used to love it.

Rejoice!
quote:

There is no scientific proof that octopuses grieve, as their solitary lives and brief lifespans mean they do not form the social bonds required for mourning.

You would think they would just open harvesting up to Croatians. Croatins know how to handle shellfish just ask all of the ones in Plaquemines Parish.
