It just dawned on my what the flashing sequence on modern LED flashlights is for

You know you click through the button and before it turns off it is rapid strobe?

Annoying, but that feature can be used to defeat a camera trying to film you. Just point the strobe at the lens of the camera.

Or maybe other uses. idk I’m not a scientist.

Primarily - it can also be used as a distress signal.

That wouldn't work on cameras with IR. Unless your flashlight has an IR mode.

On my flashlight the strobe sequence is Morse code for "SOS."

It’s to disorient attackers or as a SOS signal to get someone’s attention that you need help
