is that a projector?
The 100" is a panel the 164" is a projector screen currently using a JVC NZ900.

and how did you decide this was the correct setup for you?
There has been tons of research on the subject and a good starting point is a screen width away. My method is when I revamp the HT I use a single chair and start just inside 1 screen width and move it in after a couple of days until I hit the sweet spot. That sets the front row and becomes comfortable for most people once you view from that spot for a few days. Often people not used to it will sit in the second or third row (the third row is a bar) the first few times they are here.
My wife's opinion mirrors mine: for the first few days it is damn that is big after that they start feeling smaller and smaller. If I had a magic wand I would add 5-10" to the great room panel right now.

Since you seem to know TVs, it seems like Hisense has become a popular brand. Do they make quality TVs?

damn. sounds awesome. i can only assume the sound system is equally impressive for that type of setup.

Saturated market until 8K standardizes - the problem is the bandwidth of most cable ISP’s can not support the streaming

My dad told me his first vce was nearly $1000.
My first 27" tv was $550.
I remember vhs tapes costing like $80 in the 80s

You're getting bottom of the barrel. It's still a hell of a deal. And fine for most folks (I buy bottom of the barrel, occasionally mid-range).
But start stepping up to OLED and screens capable of the NITS required for HDR and you'll spend more.
I spent 500 dollars on a premium 27" TV from Mitsubishi in the 90s.
I still remember 10k plasma TVs hanging in Best Buy. I bet there are some poor saps STILL paying for those.
But for a big TV you don't care much about to throw up on the wall? No, there's never been a better time.
Best Buy has some exclusive Roku TVs that are a good value (actual Roku branded TVs...not TCL or Hisense "running" Roku). That's my go-to now for "bottom end" purchases. TCL is still OK but I've got some pretty ordinary Westinghouse/Hisense types.

The sound is actually far more impressive than the video. 16 18" subs each in an LLT alignment box tuned to 10hz and 4 21" pro subs in upper bass fill duty. The sub system has over 50 kW of real power with the pro amps on their own 30A 240 circuit. 11 bed layer channels and 8 height channels. The subs are each on their own channel of miniDSP so it is a 11.20.8 surround system.
One of the 21s, the dust cap is bigger than the DVD

A pair of the 21s when I was testing to determine whether I wanted to use ferrite or neo versions of the same sub

You can get a 65" Roku delivered by Amazon for $399, which I find amazing.

I have a small tv on the wall in my garage.
Every time I go to the store, it’s an exercise in fiscal responsibility not getting a giant tv for in there just because they’re so cheap.

Mine is still connected in the gun room.every time I play something on it I'm amazed at the depth compared to a new tv. Sure it isn't 4k. But it's just a more vibrant picture.

Don't be scared to buy, this process has been going on with screens and computing for a long time.
Moore's Law observed that # of transistors followed a trend of exponential growth for roughly the same area and cost. It doubled every two years.
This can't go on forever and is due to slow down soon due to limitations of physics.

Waiting on the OLEDS to get down to these prices. Using a Samsung UHD for gaming right now, but the lure of the OLED picture is pulling me!

quote:I bought a 75" Vizio for my deck off the floor at Costco 4 months ago for $425, it was a floor model, so it came with no box. It may only last 1 yr outdoors but who cares, I paid pennies.
It takes everything I have not to grab a 75" at SAMS for $579 every time I go in there.
