I feel like Israel nuking Iran would make it pop off or come close to it. Any nation using a nuke is going to be the whole international system extremely unstable

Ronald Reagan kind of proved that a totally airstrike response is possible to address some situations. He surely got Qadaffi's attention with targeted airstrikes. Muammar was meek as a mouse for many years after his crib was toasted. Airstrikes may not win some types of wars, but they can take out important resources, send strong messages and suppress many subversive activities which may be good enough. These are valid tools to consider.

Airstrikes are an essential tool in the military tool chest. All I’m saying is that it’s not the best tool nor even a good tool in certain situations.

It won’t, unless Iran finds some way to retaliate against a major player.

Despite the blustering, neither Russia nor China will upturn the global economic apple cart for a country like Iran.

Yes, there will be some instability and hard condemnation, but unless the USA, Russia, or China are hit directly, there is no impetus for retaliation if that level.

Israel nuking Iran would be ghe stupidest thing it could do and would turn it into a near pariah state

We would absolutely get involved at that point to keep that from happening

It may not start World War III but whoever fires the first nukes isn't going to have a fun time. The world has pretty much in an agreement that nukes should act more as a deterrent than something to actually use.

Ben Rhodes created, truly, all of this.

Our present troubles are traced *directly* to a speech Mr Rhodes wrote in 2009 “A New Beginning”

A genuinely orientalist speech, masquerading as enlightenment, Rhodes set the Obama admin on a disastrous Foreign Policy course.

The fulcrum event was Obama’s abandonment of Hosni Mubarak. A stalwart US ally, Mubarak was sacrificed on the pyre of “democracy”.

Every single Arab leader was terrified; if Egypt could be abandoned to doe eyed ideals, what about us?

The Obama admin proceed to be strong when they should have been deferential (Libya, Syria) and weak when they should have been strong (Egypt, Yemen, Israel/Pal).

A rudderless, inconsistent approach to a region that *abhors* waffling.

But in Iran Mr Rhodes had his coup de grace of misjudgment. The JOCOA was a case of a hammer desperately searching for a nail.

No one thought Iran couldn’t lie/evade inspectors. The UN had no desire to stop Iran anyway.

Rhodes KNEW that. But this was a “smart person’s solution”.

Is Bibi an a-hole? Yes. But Mr Rhodes did nothing to allay fears of Iran. That Hamas+Hezbollah+Houthis had the insane arsenal they had is 100% due to Iran getting JPCOA breathing room to make and disperse weapons for terror.

Mr Rhodes never spoke the language of Middle East in word or deed.

Indeed, Ayatollah Khamenei summed up Rhodes’ speech best “I say firmly (the image of the US) will not be changed by talking, speeches or slogans”.

Had Mr Rhodes learned some Farsi maybe things would have been diff.

This is going to be a tougher fight than WW2. We had numbers in WW2. We do not this time. Yeah, the West has more countries, but not more people.

This would be a bloodbath in favor of the West. Yes, China has more soldiers than the West, but they are poorly equipped and haven’t seen real combat in how many years?

The American air force and navy alone make that war un-winnable for the East. Now add in the full force of western armies with complete air superiority and they’d absolutely mow down the East

If Israel nukes Iran you will see news stories within the hour justifying it as legitimate act of self defense.

This isn’t the region that will set off WW3.

That is the South China Sea.

The only way this could set off something of that magnitude would be if one of these ME states actually uses a nuke against a major power (USA, China, Russia), which isn’t likely at this point.

The focal point of any WW3 type situation will likely be Taiwan.

Middle Eastern dustups make headlines, but will remain regional.

This is all my opinion though. Take it with a pound of salt.

Yeah I think it would be much more inline with China’s MO to sit back and wait until all hell breaks loose then make their move on Taiwan imo.

This might not be a popular opinion but this situation right here is exactly why I’m glad the US didn’t bend over for Ukraine and Zelensky. I’m far from a Russian sympathizer but that’s a MUCH more complicated situation than most realize with centuries of history for the people in that area. And I think it would be in America’s best interest to at least be somewhat cordial with Russia, if only to keep them from getting too close with China imo jmo
