If it’s a place like subway where I walk up order and they hand me food. It’s either 0 or 15%. Very simple.
Uhh no. It's just 0%. Why on Earth would you tip at Subway. That's absolutely idiotic. The same holds true for people who tip on pickup/carryout at traditional sit down establishments ie Chilis/Texas Roadhouse. There is no reason to tip. You picked the food up. Stop pissing your money away.

I say this, not as some bitter old get off my lawn type, but as a now 40 yr old guy who spent his first 8 working yrs (16-24) in high school and college working in restaurants cooking, starting at Papa Johns and worked my way up to sous chef at James Beard awarded restaurant. Stop being dumb with your money.

American thing. Most places just pay their staff, not the customers.

Why do you think you can tell me how to spend my money. It’s none of your business.

There’s always a “Custom Tip” button provided.

I typically go with 20% I'll/quote] More if it's really good service or I'm paying cash and don't want to mess with change. Even with an obviously new server, I'll tip well if their nice and I can tell they're trying. I'll tip them up front just to reassure them and put them at ease. But shite is getting out of control. I remember way back when 10% was standard and 15% was outstanding. Now mf'ers want to be tipped for every mf'ing thing they do. That ain't real world. And I do want to be entertained, I don't want your stand up routine, just keep my drink full and get my food out at the proper time and in the proper order.

This. And it helps make sure the tip goes to the person that earned it. If they pool tips, I'll give a tip and a separate "gift" that is specifically a gift for my favorite server of the day. I despise owners that take that shite. I'm fine with sharing with busboys, kitchen staff etc if they are, but if I want to reward one person specifically, I will.

100%.

1. The business doesn’t skim the tip from the server.

2. Most servers can’t calculate what percentage a cash payment is of the bill.

Frankly, they're the ones doing all the work. Particularly the kitchen staff. Your server literally walks your food 200 ft from the expediting window to your table and keeps your drinks full all while kissing your arse. That's it.

I wish more place would have a way to tip them directly. In restaurants I frequent a lot and know everyone, I do. I want to keep everyone that handles my food or near it to be happy!!

I was in the airport yesterday and got a drink at one of those shops on the side and there wasn’t a single worker there it was fully automated. I grabbed my drink, scanned it and payed for it. Then it asks for a tip

Who exactly was that tip going to the machine who told me how much to pay?

I got a tip screen at a liquor store in Canada. And the way to get to no tip was so convoluted I actually gave the guy a "cmon seriously" and he just shrugged and said they can't change it.

Everyone does.

City had to write me a $14k check because they were overcharging me for water.

I have been working since 15 as well. Dabbled in restaraunts. I know I don’t have to tip at subway but there’s a part of me that wants to help that person out. I don’t know . To give is to receive.

I hit the custom button and leave a dollar or two. I hate places that make you get your own drink and pick up your food that do this. If you bring me my food and pick up my trash I'll leave a buck or two. But not a percentage.

I remeber being a cook making $12 an hour which was good money 25 years ago in a restaurant. I had hooked this server up with all kinds of off menu items. He came back and showed me he got a $200 tip. I a making $96 for eight hours and that was"good" pay. Servers can be over paid. I wish we had the European or Japanese server model.

Seems to me that Off the Hook must have recently started the tipping bullshite at the drive through. Any other drive through they give you your card and receipt back, but you have to sign the paper for OtH and are expected to leave a tip.
Twice I didn’t leave a tip and twice I was asked to pull up and wait 5 more minutes while cars came and went behind me.
