Yeah he's a dick. Gaining weight because of a medical reason like having a child doesn't make you a bad spouse. Gaining weight because you've let yourself go and you eat yourself into rolls and rolls of fat is another thing entirely.

So she ended up in better shape than before the kids? I actually find women that have had kids and regained their body to be sexier than before they had the kids. Takes a lot of dedication and hard work to pull that off.

That’s why you gotta pay attention to your future mother in law…. If she’s a wildebeest, might wanna play it safe.

Age comes for all of us.

This is the “or worse” part of “for better or for worse”, so that’s a no for me.

What a moron. If a woman is hot after her mid 30's/having kids, you've hit the lotto because she'll probably be hot forever. If a woman is a solid 6/7 at 39, she automatically jumps 2 points on her 40th birthday. There's something that is straight smokin' about a woman with a couple kids that is in shape and takes care of herself at like 45 ish.

My last relationship (7-years) ended primarily because I lost weight after getting fat and my gf at the time, who also gained weight over that span, kept getting bigger and made no efforts to change it.

Was not the only reason it ended, but definitely was the driving force.

Not sure if I’d be willing to end a marriage over it, but who knows. Depends how fat I guess.

Not sure, but if your spouse suddenly starts dropping weight, it means they are about to divorce you!

So women get fat from having kids

No, they don't. They use having kids as an excuse for not having the discipline to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Men do it as well.

I could not agree more. Women generally burn extra calories simply by breastfeeding.

If it has been addressed and she still refuses to try to fix it, then a side piece is acceptable.

I have a responsiblity to my wife to stay active and in shape and she owes me the same. It's pretty selfish to put on obese levels of jelly and expect your spouse to still be attracted to you.

100%. I'm not just exercising to look good. I want to be able to enjoy an active retirement with my wife one day. I don't want to feel like I'm staying in shape so that I can push her around in a wheelchair when we are 64

It's so sad to me to see a couple in their early 60's basically die 20 years before they actually do because they just can't physically do much. You reasonably have another 20 years of good living at that point if you take care of yourself.

Not to mention how much data is coming out about the positive impact exercise has on menopause and male aging symptoms. Exercise is just something everyone should do.

I always get sad seeing people in their late 50s/early 60s who are completely broken and out of shape and barely moving around the grocery store.

I don't agree that it is an acceptable reason, but reverse the situation where a man was leaving his wife over her weight, and everyone wouldn't be so supportive on "MumsNet", whatever the frick that is.

There would be a million stories on what a POS the husband is for even thinking about it.

na...i got up to 245 lbs at 5'9 and one day while tying my boots go out of breath where i had to take a break...lost 63 lbs in less than 6 months and got in great shape. still with my wife 10 years later. some people, especially those that enjoy exercise but have just let themselves go, get tired of feeling like shite and say frick this and get after it.

Men however don’t gain weight after marriage but are more likely to gain after a divorce.
This couldn't be a more contrary statement. It's the exact opposite.
