Plenty of trick or treating going on these days, parents are just savvy/smart enough to hit up the neighborhoods with the highest density of candy/fun. Your neighborhood just isn't hot anymore. Mine isn't either, that's why we take the kids to my sister's neighborhood.
we gave out like 1500 pieces of candy two at a time.

I’d imagine that my kids eventually gave handfuls because they were tired of it. I’d imagine we had 500 kids

Had 4 or 5 trick or treaters, and one was just a friend with small twins stopping by to say hi and didn’t want candy. I was bitching at my wife because she only bought $20 of candy, and now we still have most of it left.

Yes. Last night we got maybe ten walk ups. The rest (50 or so) were from neighboring areas who drive there. That doesn’t bother me like it bothers other people though.

It’s like a serious drop off from just ten years ago when my kids were trick or treating in the neighborhood.

And the houses are participating less and less as a result or cause maybe. I don’t know. Like three house on my whole block had lights on for kids.

We were the only ones on the porch greeting them. It’s pretty sad what Halloween has become.

Don’t everyone go blaming “culcha” either. That’s some BS. Like black kids shouldn’t be allowed to go to mostly white neighborhoods and trick or treat.

We took our boys on a quick lap around the neighborhood so we could get back and hand out candy. When we left I left a full bucket of candy at the door thinking it would be gone by the time we got back.

It went untouched. Apparently people sit outside now and if they don't see any one out in the front, they just keep walking by. So now we set up chairs and pass out candy. There were a ton of kids.

All it would have taken is 1 kid to walk up to the door and they would have hit the jackpot

We're had just a few the last few years but last night a bunch maybe 100 in all. No idea why this year had far more trick or treaters.

Kids especially the little ones and their reactions are a blast we always make a fuss over how scary and cute they look.

The smiles when they say thank you warms the heart, and some are amazed that all they gotta do is ring your door bell, say trick or treat and get candy.

I love it and hope the traditional neighborhood Halloween walk never dies.

. This right here. So even though I may get one teenager out of costume per ten little ones, it’s still totally worth it.

Plus we have an excuse to dress up also.

It was cold as hell last night. We cut our route a little shorter than normal last night like probably a lot of people. Don't need the kids getting sick over a little candy.

Being outside in cold weather won't make your kids sick.

Its moving towards the kids going to more controlled environments rather than them going to random pervert's houses.
Honest question... why does the environment need to be “controlled”? Does bad stuff ever actually happen to kids on Halloween or is it just parents being overprotective?

I live in a pretty upscale, well-to-do neighborhood and not a single family came by last night. Not complaining, it was great to watch football on the TV and the Pelicans on the iPad with a nice beverage and no interruptions.

i think its a compliment and i admire the parents who do this for caring enough to give their kids a nice experience in a good subdivision.

It was a slow year in my hood. Wife and I walked with our daughter and her friends while son and his friend stayed home to hand out candy. They said we only had 2 groups come to the door.

Cold weather probably played a part. The forecast all week called for gusty winds, so I'm guessing a lot of people made alternate plans. It was cold, but not windy at all. There were also several youth football games last night, so that likely played a part as well.

Last year was about as packed a Halloween as I can remember in the 17 years we've been in this neighborhood, so I don't think the pastime is dying. It's maybe not a priority for as many families though.

We did what we always do. Went to my in-law’s neighborhood, co-worker and his family showed up. Our kids, wives, went running around the neighborhood while co-worker and I walked around taking shots of whiskey. Our wives bitched at us for getting drunk and we laughed back. Lots of people were out.

I feel bad. Left the lights on when I left to go out of town totally forgetting it’s Halloween. Just checked the cameras and people came knocking.

I think a lot more churches do trunk or treat now and so a lot more people attend trunk or treats. When I first moved to where I live now, we had 300-400+ trick or treaters each Halloween for a few years. I bet there weren’t 30 or 40 on my street last night.
