Nobody ever actually wanted to talk to their neighbors, it's just that everyone was bored out of their fricking minds before the internet. It was just "frick, I don't have shite to do, I guess I have to go talk to somebody". The internet has allowed us to be who we always wanted to be: dicks.
Until something happens and you actually wish you knew them. Times of crisis are always representative of how we SHOULD be as communities.

Didn’t have one single trick or treater this year.
quote:Not going away, and the cold didn't bother many. Where we went tonight there were bare minimum 250 kids, and every 3rd or 4th house had decorations and candy. There were haunted garages, meat on grills, gumbo.
Is it just going away or perhaps it turned cold as frick tonight?
Halloween might actually be getting bigger.

Except the assholes across the street who think leash laws do not apply to them.

Had about 100...of that 100, about 60 of them were in groups of 6-10, and those groups usually come in from other neighborhoods, and I am all for it—it’s nice to give those kids a Halloween their neighborhood won’t.
Last year we had about 170 or so...many large groups.
I order a “shipper” every year from Hershey, which is (8) 36 count cases (288 full-size bars total)—2 cases each of Kit-Kat, Reese cups, Hershey Bars, and Hershey Almond.
I have about 3 cases left—when 7:45 came around, I started giving 2 to each kid when I figured I was going to have about 4 cases left over.
I will drop the remaining 3 cases to Covenant House tomorrow—I got off the sugar a couple months ago and can’t have that crap around.

Trunk or Treating has been around since I was a kid. I'm 42.

Trunk or treat is the epitome of the phrase frick this gay earth

What's wrong with it? People get to decorate and have a little fun handing out candy to a guaranteed barrage of costumed kids, and the kids have a blast loading up on candy without having to walk for miles. On top of that, around here it doesn't replace trick or treating on Halloween night at all, it's just a supplement. We took our kids to a trunk or treat at a church on sunday afternoon, then their school had a trunk or treat for them during school hours today (and they let the kids wear costumes to school), and we went trick or treating tonight.
Don't see the problem.

We only had a handful, but I wasn't home the whole time. Took my 3 year old trick or treating.
I just opened my Facebook and most of my news feed was pics of friends kids dressed up for Halloween.
Might just be the age of your friend's kids. Not sure what to say about your neighborhood. This is my first year in this neighborhood, I admit I was hoping for more.

I heard St George was debating a bill that would limit trick or treating inside city limits to residents of the city. I’m not sure if it passed or not, just letting people know what’s being discussed for the future.
Did you hear about the BR resident who mowed down a hay ride in UClub?

This is how it has been my entire life (42)....Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, California, and North Carolina...I'm a little confused as to why some are acting as if Trunk and Treat is new or kills Halloween.

We had probably 500 kids tonight, so no.

We had 2 people come to our door tonight. We spent 40 dollars on candy. I’m pissed.

I did spend too much on candy, mostly because last year I didn't spend enough.

Growing up in WI I recall my neighborhood usually having ToT on Sunday afternoons, typically during or after a Packer game when a lot of folks would be home. Tons of kids in the streets during the day and lots of offering houses. We cleaned up every year.
It was kinda weird moving to TX and having ToT on the day of Halloween, usually a weeknight. And lately it's supplemented with trunk or treats on the weekends, or Halloween parades at school.
I generally see a lot fewer kids these last few years than I recall seeing in WI. Didn't help that it was much colder than usual tonight. SO reported three knocks at our house between 6-9. Out walking with my son I would wager that only about 1/4 of the houses we crossed were offering candy.
Some folks threw a small block party though, that was fun for the 20 minutes we were there. Grilling, lawn games, room for kids and pets to run around. I could get behind that for next year.

Actually going and talking to your neighbors isn’t something that happens any more so it makes sense
