Restaurants should take what they make on soft drinks and tea and use that to pay servers. They charge $2.50 and up for something that costs them $.10 at best. Screw the greedy bastards!
I would implore you to look up the "true cost of an entree". Restaurants charge that much on low cost, high quantity sold items so we do not have to charge you the true cost of an entree. So many restaurants close and people still think our profit margins are high!

most service industry folks just use their tip money for drugs

My country club has an automatic 18% service charge. Recently found out that around half of that goes to some "fund" for sick leave, paid leave, etc.. for all waitstaff and managers. The other half is split between the servers in some way. So they recently add and "additional tip" line to the charge! This goes straight into their pocket.
I don't see the problem if it clearly says "additional tip", especially at a country club where rich folks love to over tip their favorite servers/bartenders after a few cocktails.

If they work nights and upsell their customers, yes.
My wife worked in the service industry her entire life mostly in management. When most servers/bartenders tell you how much they average a night it is usually what they make on a really good weekend night.

I refuse to tip Carryout or Drive thru.
Only place I tip is for haircuts, sit down restaurants, airport shuttles if they grab my bag, black jack dealer / Roulette spinner (if I win), and valet services

There is a simple way to get around it.. Don't tip. For some reason I even get pleasure out of going to somewhere like Izzos and crossing a line through the tip section...
To some degree I see it as a scam. Its an illusion that will get some people to tip just because there is a section that says "tip".
But they are paid to work. They all have jobs. Some prepare the food. Then there are those who put your burrito together which involves them putting whatever you ask for, on your burrito, then there is another person who rolls it up, and checks you out. Why would I tip if that's what they are getting paid to do?

Yes ignignot, im referring to counter tips (not servers/delivery drivers, that depend on tips to make some $). I think the biggest thing with this system is the default to 15% tip these systems are set up; when should be set on blank and have to select your %.

Incorrect sneaky sally; majority of ppl tip on credit card (before food arrives-my sister is waitr driver). I have always been (delivered pizza in college) against pre tipping because i want to tip in cash on how fast my order got to me, only fair. TIPS-to insure prompt serve

Why is the default tip going from 15 to 18 to 20% nowadays when the price of food has gone up too.
As food prices increased, tips should have gone up too.
If you go to a restaurant and order a $30 wine bottle, at 20% you end up tipping $6. If you order a $100 dollar wine bottle, you end up tipping $20? Waiter is still bringing you a bottle either way.

I don't understand your complaint. McDonald's isn't forcing you or anyone to make a donation.

Depending on the restaurant, they also tip out the bartender and host. If it is an Asian place somehow probably the cooks and somehow the owners

Got tips expected for carry out orders too.
That's the one that trips me up a bit. I get dropping 20% on someone who refilled drinks and the other aspects of being a server -- but what's the protocol on tipping someone for essentially bagging your food? Because you know the cook staff isn't getting the majority of that gratuity.
Or are they? Not sure how the Take-out system is set-up.

given that many people choose to tip with cash at the door for delivery
To be fair, every time we have a thread on carrying cash, more than half of us post that we never carry any. So there’s probably a decent likelihood that someone who didn’t tip in the app isn’t tipping once you get there.

When you say you don't carry cash.. Does that mean you don't keep cash at all? Or do you at least have some on hand at the house.. In a safe?
