How so? Genuinely interested. I don't expect tips. I'm just saying that I'm not doing the job without them.

I think it'd be entitled if I was complaining that no one is tipping. I'm doing the opposite. It seems that everyone else is upset that I won't work for minimum wage to deliver them Chipotle. Honestly, that comes off as entitled.

Edit - I just saw your edit! I'm not in that age range. Good guess, though.

How about at the donut shop? The one in my hood has the tip thing built into the software where you hit 15,20, custom, etc. Should the lady at the counter who threw a few donuts in the bag be tipped? Does she expect to be tipped or is it on there because the register/software they use automatically asks?

You basically want people to give you EXTRA money before you’ve provided any type of service. Why the frick would any sensible person tip someone who hasn’t even provided anything yet? would it make any sense to give a tip if I dont know what kind of condition my food will be in when it’s delivered to me? What if you took my food and drove around for a half an hour vaping and smoking pots before you got to me and as a result, I get cold food?

Expecting something without giving anything is a great example of entitlement. You get my food to me in a reasonable amount of time, and you better believe you’re gonna get something from me.

And this is coming from someone who tips everyone, including the roadside assistance people who I dealt with this weekend.. wife thought I was crazy, but I always do it when personal assistance is provided

I never tip for carry out
I tip 20% rest of the time assuming service is good.

If it’s terrible or impeccable I obv adjust.

You honestly believe a server working five five hour shifts per week their is making $2500?

If they work nights and upsell their customers, yes.

Every bill should average at least 30 bucks. Even factoring in Canadians. 5 four tops per hour.

Again, you're not quite getting it. Doordash provides the pay structure in which I get to see how much payout is associated with an order before I take it. I can typically tell from the payout amount and the distance if someone has tipped well, or at all. If the payout amount is to my liking, let's say $12 for 5 miles at a quick restaurant, I will go get it. Now, I'll see what tip was put in after it was delivered, but usually you can tell.

If the payout amount doesn't make sense, say $3 for 4 miles, I'm not going to take it. I don't have any obligation to take an order I don't want. It has nothing to do with my wanting you to tip. If Doordash wants to pay me an entire $15 for a good order with no customer tip, I'd take that. I don't care if there is a tip added, as long as I'm getting paid for it. But the way Doordash's pay structure is set up, is that if you're doing it right tips should be about half of your pay. Therefore, if someone doesn't tip, it's very unlikely that their order will get picked up by anybody that likes to actually make money.

Does that make sense? I see the amount I'll get, I decide if I want to take it based on what makes sense for me financially. I don't care if someone tips. It's just likely that if you don't tip, it's not going to be worth my time.

And if they ever switch it to not getting a tip until afterwards, I'll find a new job. It won't upset me, I'll just know that it's not worth the risk of wear and tear on my car and gas.

You may be incorrectly factoring the payout though, given that many people choose to tip with cash at the door for delivery

We just aren’t gonna see eye to eye on this, so I’m gonna let it go.

In addition to tips, how does doordash pay its employees?

Yes, this is definitely possible. In the beginning I'd take those low orders with hopes that someone would tip at the door, and it happened one time out of about 6-7 orders.

I'd love to live in this world where I think people will be fair and tip after the fact, but I've found that people usually opt to save their money when they aren't obligated. In my opinion, it's not worth the risk of wear and tear on your vehicle and gas expenses without a guarantee.

We get a base pay depending on how far the mileage is. If it's anywhere under 3 miles total, typically doordash will pay a base of $3-4. Then the tip on top of that. I try to stick to being at least $1.50 per mile, unless I know the restaurant is really quick or I know my dropoff is near a high paying neighborhood.

I have gotten orders for $12 for 10 miles total that I've declined and then Doordash will show me the same order a minute later where they have upped their base to where it makes the order $18. In this case, it is because nobody is accepting the order.

Restaurants should take what they make on soft drinks and tea and use that to pay servers. They charge $2.50 and up for something that costs them $.10 at best. Screw the greedy bastards!

But yes, I still tip servers 20% for good service in a sit-down and order from the menu restaurant. I don’t tip any else except a Sonic runner since they seem to work hard.

Tipping at Jersey Mikes is where I draw the line.

I find that absurd. That is essentially fast food. I'm not tipping at a fast food restaurant.

And I'm a heavy tipper normally, 20+% unless I have terrible service.

Oh I'll tip this, probably the only fast food exception. If they're on skates, it goes up even more

When my employees are on break, I send them out into traffic to raise money for their “travel basketball” team. I make them remove their work shirts first though.

We usually take the proceeds and buy lotto tickets and hit the Golden Corral.

I haven't read through this thread. Is it where all the cheapskates act self righteous about being stingy fricks?
