Yep with social media being the biggest instigator.

I think it actually starts with mainstream media, and then trickles down to social media.

the mainstream media is the #1 problem in this country.

No, not divided, there are just slight differences.

I doubt it's as bad as the late 60s (even if this thread is probably already overflowing with angry people blaming the "scum" on the opposite side.)

At very least, the "civil unrest" has not been anywhere near as violent.

The real division is with corporations and the working class.

Every year the rich get richer and the poor get poorer

I mean, rich vs poor is the true conflict in this country. "Pull yourself up by the bootstraps" only goes so far.

BLM, ANTIFA, and those people at the capital would never admit this. But they are all pissed off for a lot of the same reasons.

80-90% of the country agrees on the majority of policy, but the media and politicians gaslight the extremes.

People pull themselves up by the bootstraps every day. If you’re willing to work hard enough, you can change your life and your family’s lives. The issue is entitlement and people thinking they deserve to earn good money with no education or skills.

Pull yourself up by your bootstraps is a croc of shite and always has been.

Its just a mantra to ignore poor people. The wealthy don't pull themselves anywhere they want the deck stacked in their favor so they can never fall

I think most people just want an entry level job that doesn't require 3 years of experience or a steady blue-collar job without the risk of offshoring.

I don’t know where you live, but there are plenty of jobs for people willing to do them. You’re not entitled to a 75k office job with no degree, no experience, and no skills.

Complete bullshite. Upper middle class is growing big time or was pre covid and lower middle has shrunk in last decade all while the poor has remaining pretty damn constant.

Sure the gap has widened, but mainly only in the super rich. But who gives a frick?

The biggest God damn problem is idiots keep supporting policies like shutting down the economy for covid, printing tons of cash 23% of all money was printed in last year) and then have the fricking balls to turn around and bitch about the growing gap between the rich and the poor when the policies they supported have unintended consequences.

They support these damn things then turn around and get pissed because the price of the dollar is going down and their groceries now cost 15-20% more.

So the biggest reason is now fricking idiots that have no clue how business works or how the real world works, now have an outlet to spew their bullshite. This is kn both sides btw. Both parties are spending out of control.

could "lazy" and "hard working" be used for poor and wealthy in this sentence? How about "uneducated" and "educated"?

This right here. The 60s was a turbulent time but it was a turbulent time for all the right reasons. There were legitimate problems facing our nation and violent push back against people who wanted to solve them.

More than a half century later, the majority of our problems stem from years of blissful coexistence (for the most part). There are so few problems facing the United States that people invent them just to have something to do with their lives.

I'm in my late 40's and the one thing that strikes me about today's environment is that both "sides" seem to operate in their own view of reality. I don't know how to bridge that gap, or if you even can.

This is an unequivocally false statement.
