I've walked into Lowes... Returned items, then walked around to buy more items and then paid for those items not self checkout).... And not one word was said to me during any of those activities

Another time... Waiting in lumber to check out... Line was backed up. Contractor had enough. I was next in line behind him...he had about 8 sheets of drywall and other tools... He just pushed them right past check out went straight to his truck. I checked out and walked out just in time to see him backing up ( with the drywall in the bed )

Bought several tools that were inspected and cleared to be put back on the shelf... Full of dry wall dust... Missing parts.,

The plumbing guy is solid though..he knows his stuff and I only deal with him when I have a question. Looks like the Lorax

Definitely frustrating but I think it varies on the individuals obviously

Some folks are very helpful and knowledgeable while others probably shouldn’t be working in that area bc they can’t locate their arse with both hands and a flashlight

Home Depot is worse. They are filled with non-employee independent contractors who don’t know shite about anything except the one product they are servicing and even then don’t know much.

What does this mean? I've been solicited at checkout to receive a free estimate for any work needed at my house. Did you hire them? Or are you just talking about getting advice from the retiree working in lumber?

My experience has been different. Most of the time they have been very helpful. I don't expect too much from them, if they were true experts in whatever section of the store they service they probably wouldn't be working at Lowes.

I have one of these by the house. They are 20% more on just about every item. However, I get EXACTLY what I need in a single trip. Someone greets me when I walk in. They ask pointed questions about what I'm trying to do. Then, they offer expert advice on what I need and take me to where it is in the store to pick out.

I have a couple of local joints I go to when I need good, correct, or particular stuff, or if I need advice. I have one for plumbing, one for electrical, and one for general construction. Every single one of them lead with, "What can I help you with?" and they have guys in the lot to load stuff for you.

They treat people the same whether you're buying $100K worth of stuff for a home you're building or if you're just doing a DIY project that amounts to a few bucks.

The big box joints I go to when I'm close by and just need something that doesn't matter much. I usually look up where the shite is and know the aisle and bay before I go through the doors. Rarely do I ever need to speak to an employee.

But then there was a shift in Lowes, when they fired 1500 Assistant managers in a restructuring some time ago. It never seemed the same after that. They started finding reasons to fire the well paid very knowledgeable people and hire in cheap labor that had no experience.

My favorite human study experiment is to ask one of them to cut a couple of pieces of wood. Surprise, surprise, no employee in the entire store is certified to work the vertical saw. I already knew that would be the response, but I was somehow hoping my faith in competent humanity would be restored...it never does at Lowes or HD.

I'd agree to some extent, but my lowes has one old dude in plumbing and another in hardware and those guys are bad arse and know their shite.

I dont usually give employee reviews, but I've given several good ones for both those guys.

Don’t do it. I hired them to do floors and cabinets. About $80,000 and six months later, it’s still not done and I’ve encountered one problem after another. All of which have been directly the fault of the employee and the managers are even more useless than they are at solving problems.

Went to Slowe's yesterday and there must of been 10 new hires running around like their heads were cut off. There's several that have been working at the local Lowe's here that I go to if I need something, even if it's not their area of expertise. They have been there, done that.

With the way it is now I'm honestly surprised they still have a saw in the stores...... the employees are idiots. I was at the one on Millerville the other day and I was checking out in lumber. The cashier was trying to find someone to help a guy pull down a bunk of 2x4s I think. She got off the phone with someone and yelled to the guy down the aisle that all the lumber guys had gone to lunch....... and she did nothing... didn't call a manager... didn't see if a neighboring dept could help..... she just started ringing up my purchase. I felt bad for the dude down the aisle

Same, theres an old timer at my local ACE that essentially helped me fix my shower by explanation alone. Spent more time taking the pictures that i never used than it took him to tell me what to do.

sometimes I don’t have any option but Lowe’s because they’ve forced the smaller guys out of business.

False. Lowes didn't force smaller guys out of business. People going to Lowes to save money is what forced smaller guys out of business.

People act like big brand stores show up with baseball bats and burn down small businesses. If you want that small business stay there, spend your money there.
