I put in some years for Lowe's & still know people that work there. I can assure you there are zero employees making $9.50/hour. Starting pay is $14/hour and specialists are making something like $20/hour. I remember thinking I found a gold mine job, getting hired at $10/hour there like 15 years ago.

Do you pay extra for this service or is it "free" with the purchase of materials? If it's free I'm not really sure what you expect. Pay someone that knows what they are doing (and gets compensated for it) and save yourself the headache

I had to call a state office yesterday and I say about ten words, and the guy says the address is on the top left of your document.
I said, what?
He says, wasn’t that your question?
No, I haven’t asked you anything yet…then he got an attitude.

Yes there is...at the McDonald's and Popeye's in Gramercy.
The only reason they're still in business is because that area has so little to offer as far as food choices.

The DMV?

Granted, it's probably a dead heat, but they are definitely a contender...

I find going to a plumbing or electrical supply store gets you far better service (help and advise) than any big box store.

We have Anders hardware and an Ace in Northport and will use them unless it is something they dont carry and I have to go to Lowes or HD. But if I go to one of them I never ask anyone there anything. If I dont know where something is I will use their app to find the isle. And if I dont know how to do something I'll use youtube before I ask a Lowes employee. Its like the GIF above, I know more than they do.

That's why I go to Ace. There are tons of helpful knowledgeable people working there. It's a great experience every time.

It's OMV now. Buddy of mine testified Monday in B.R. oversight committee about a problem he had with OMV. He moved to Ms. from La. years ago, and changed his car insurance (Flo) from La. to MS., same insurance, just different state. When he told his insurance co. in La. he was moving to Ms., they said he couldn't be covered. Still had his La. license, just changed his address to his mothers house cause he's on the road alot back and forth with both of his sons living in south La. He goes to renew his license, and the OMV tells him he has a flag on his license, no insurance. He begs to differ and goes out to his truck and retrieves his insurance card. The OMV says they don't care, he owes the La. 500.00 to re-instate his license. Since covid all re-instatement is now directed to B.R. OMV. Called several times and spent hours waiting to talk to someone. Talk about some crooked shite La. lawmakers and insurance co's. cooked up.

I worked at Home Depot for 6.5 yrs. They used to hire folks who had actual experience ie electricians to work electrical, framers in lumber, etc. They stopped doing that to cut costs and ran out a lot of qualified folks. Plumbing was my area of expertise, and while I have enough of a knowledge base of the other areas to help most customers, there's always folks who needed some real advice. The key is to take them to the right employee who is an expert. If I couldn't help you I knew who could and made sure you were taken care of.

Now if I go in there it's a shitshow. Same at Lowe's. I just use the app if I don't already know where what I'm looking for is. They went big box and not for the better.

I got so mad at Lowes about a year ago I wrote them. told them I rather have 60 year old men that wanted to work helping me than a bunch of 20 & 30 year olds that knew nothing and acted like I was disturbing their cell phone calls. I went back about 3 weeks later and no there wasn't any old guys working but the attitude of the employees were 180 degrees different. I guess others complained also. (I also noted an assistant manager was the worst one, maybe they came down on him and he straightened up everybody. )

Just go to Ace. Locally owned and operated. Knowledgeable employees. What's to decide?

For the most part I agree but whether you're a Lowe's fan or HD fan it depends on the location....I've had good and shitty encounters from both stores.....currently I'm protesting Lowe's

I definitely miss the old neighborhood hardware stores. Those frickers knew everything.

Even those can be hit or miss depending on staff, my local hardware store is full of high school and college kids. Most of the time they have to call the older ones that are busy cutting pipe or unloading trucks and going over inventory. Also, my other issue with local hardware stores are semi banker’s hours. If you need a pipe or fittings after six or on a Sunday depending on the store, you are going to HD or Lowe’s, and for me that is a hour’s drive each way.

I laugh when you see people buy lumber packages from Lowe’s or HomeDepot and think they are saving money vs a lumber yard. Lol!!!

Good luck getting any commodity lumber lengths over 18ft.
Trim comes in 8ft pcs where you have to splice everything.
Window packages are typically screwed up as they are ordered wrong.
Door packages good luck.
Lol!!!!

HD and Lowe’s are only good for if you know what you want, where to find it, good luck checking out, and are doing small projects.
