This is the part of the argument where SFP congratulates himself and presents a really lazy false choice, right?

how is it a "false choice"
the DWI zealots in this thread are just like the gun control zealots, the "islam is great" zealots, fat shaming zealots, BLM, SJWs, and all others who rely on emotions to form their arguments. it's all the exact same argument based in emotion and subjective experience with different focused behaviors
i literally have the same response to all of them, because the problem is thinking emotionally and avoiding rationality

That's weird because it seems like you are the one minimizing and mis-characterizing their arguments and motives and presenting them in a lazy chocolate/vanilla way.
But,no worries man. If we were having beers and discussing this we'd nod and move on to the next point. I have nothing but respect. Brother. I just enjoy breaking your balls.

How do you plan on paying for the thousands of new jails we'll need?
Stiffer penalties will act as a deterrent. Obviously the laws on the books today do not.

because our stiff penalties elsewhere (compared to comparable countries) and our high crime rate (compared to comparable countries) display this in real time

We let zealots control all of our debates, which is why we have so many terrible laws. Your license, if you get a DUI, is subject to a double suspension - an administrative suspension followed by a suspension upon conviction.
.08 is too low for a legal limit - study after study has concluded these aren't the drivers killing people or having accidents.
The repeat DUI offenders and the high % BAT drivers are the ones who we need to focus on.

There is a bunch of idiot drunks in this thread downvoting. WTF? You aren't just risking your life when you drunk drive, you're risking the lives of other people. I don't give a frick if you kill yourself, go the frick ahead. But I'm not OK with you "thinking you're OK" and then killing people.
Everyone that ever killed someone from drinking and driving felt the same fricking way you do now. Remember that shite. Idiots.

basically
one of SFP's rules is that you will have a terrible law if (1) it is named after somebody (like "Jessica's Law") or (2) if the politicians used "if we can save just one life" when debating the policy. why? what you just posted
they group together to bark loud so it appears they are the majority in order to influence laws. there is ONE crime where a special interest group will have a representative posted in court to monitor pleas/trials to flex on the DA. what crime? DWIs
not violent crime like rape, murder, robbery, etc
DWIs
doesn't that seem odd to anyone? why would a non-violent offense that is typically a misdemeanor crime (and almost exclusively without a victim) get such attention? why would we give any extra weight to this attention?

i take it that you support a ban on guns similar to the UK or Austrailia, for similar reasons?

Wait .
So now Jessica's Law is a bad law?
Doesn't that just impose mandatory sentencing on perps who sexually violate children twelve years and younger ? Am I wrong about that?

i don't even know what Jessica's law is offhand. i just picked a name (and possibly based in some vague recollection of that law)

Florida law stating all first time sex offenders to serve a minimum 25 years. Life max

This is so very true. If you could drink and drive and only be responsible for killing yourself or those stupid enough to get in the car with you, then fine. Darwin awards for all.
But, when you kill innocent people because you are an idiot, then you should pay the stiffest penalties. It's not rocket science.

i don't think anyone is arguing that
and the penalties for killing somebody while driving drunk aren't some joke

Offender also has to be 18 or older.

to avoid confusion, next time i re-state my commentary, i will use "bry'keithon" instead of "jessica"
the last thing we need is another Bry'Keithon's Law

Bry'Keitheon is going to lay down the law in two weeks, bitches.
My Dad's premise in 1980 was that every lawmaker should sponsor a bill to abolish ten existing laws every session.
