That's not true at all. The science certainly doesn't support that conclusion.

Ok, now you're just being a troll. The following is a not all inclusive list of things roughly as dangerous as driving after one drink.
1) Driving while farting
2) Driving on 6.5 hours of sleep vs. your usual 7
3) Driving while thinking to yourself "I might have to take a dump in the next hour or so"
4) Driving while debating whether you should get gas on the way home or just wait till the morning
5) Driving with a little bit of ball sweat on your inner thighs
.
.
Driving at 0.015-0.02 isn't even as dangerous as "common" driving distractions (changing radio stations, talking to passengers, etc..)

Lots of drunk drivers up in this thread.

I went to Universal with my buddy and his 6 year old a few years ago. A few months later I carried the little boy's casket. frick drunk driving. It destroys entire families. Throw the mother fricking book at them on the second offense. And frick anybody who disagrees.

Guess you're part of the "never let a serious crisis go to waste" crowd.

When you have someone you care about ejected from the front seat of a vehicle through the windshield 40 feet in the air in the street, and have to watch them get airlifted by chopper to a brain surgeon to save their life, while the other 2 people in the vehicle are killed on impact, you will view it differently
It's amazing how much your perspective changes when you're directly affected by something. My parents were hit by a drunk driver and one of my best friends was hit by a drunk driver and was lucky to survive. In both cases the driver spent the night in jail and was free after that.
I am 100% for tougher penalties.

I don't know why people drive drunk.

I agree with the OP. Make people fear the consequences.
Posted on 10/24/15 at 2:04 pm to OleWarSkuleAlum
What is the recititism rate between each offenses?
That will tell you if the penaltys are severe enough.
A felony for 1st offense DUI seems a little severe if there isn't an accident.

I have no problem with hammering multiple offenders and "super drunk" penalties. It's dropping to the legal limit to next to nothing and different sentencing judge to judge that bothers me.

Sorry you had to experience that but this is the exact reason why we don't let victims prosecute criminals cases. It's impossible to look reasonably at a situation when you're deeply emotionally invested in it.
Laws should not be made based on emotion.

The base sentence for a first time DWI should be a felony; one to five years imprisonment with or without hard labor, one year to be served without suspension of sentence; $5000 fine; 90 days of community service; two year suspension of drivers license; inpatient treatment for 3 months with outpatient for 6; Probation for 10 years to include monitoring devices for 1yr; Seizure and sale of vehicle.
Holy shite, you're stupid.
And texting and driving is way more dangerous, and never enforced.

Yeah because 0.08 is really "drunk"

1st offense should be 1 year in jail, no parole.

You can laugh and remain ignorant, or you can educate yourself.

The answer is yes. By a long-shot. Driving a vehicle while texting is six times more dangerous than driving while intoxicated, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
