Driving while texting has been shown to cause just as many accidents as driving drunk. It's become so much a problem that you see frequent ad campaigns warning people to leave their phones alone while driving. Many states it is illegal to drive and text, some states don't even want you using hands free devices to talk on the phone while driving.

Honestly, how do you even get caught that many times unless you're a raging alcoholic and drive drunk as frick everytime you get behind the wheel swerving like a motherfricker. There's some statistic that says most people drive over the limit like 90 something times before they get their first dui.

Problems with current DWI laws:
1. In the lower BAC range it's a cash grab, most horrific stories involving DWI are > 0.15% or so, but problem is most people stopped for DWI are in the 0.08-0.10 range where the risk of their actions were on par with minor (traffic ticket level) infractions. A lot of these people have careers and feed the system whatever money they need to feed it to keep their name clean. This also impacts how they vote and view DWI laws, but since the courts make money and there's plenty of angry mothers out there, there's no push to address this side of the story

I'd like to know who's gonna pay for this 9 months of rehab My 18 year old cousin killed himself drinking and driving so I'm not unaffected by it. But this proposal is just plain idiotic
I'd much rather see the state spend any of this money on locking up violent criminals
