When you have someone you care about ejected from the front seat of a vehicle through the windshield 40 feet in the air in the street, and have to watch them get airlifted by chopper to a brain surgeon to save their life, while the other 2 people in the vehicle are killed on impact, you will view it differently

My uncle was killed by a drunk driver. Those proposed penalties are ridiculous.

I am not sure. It was a single cab truck and 4 people were in it. 3 guys and a girl.

I was following it with 2 other people in my car late at night as we were going to meet at someone's house.

Drunk a-hole in an SUV runs a red light going like 70 MPH(speed limit was 40) and smashes into the side of the truck, then the truck gets pushed into a lightpole at high speed and smashes into it, killing the driver and the guy to his right instantly. The girl was 3rd left-to-right and got ejected out the front windshield. Person closest to the passenger door also killed obviously. Girl was the only one who lived but had to be operated on and wheelchair bound for a year.

It all happened so fast but in slow motion as well. Getting out of your car and going to the truck and seeing 3 guys dead and blood oozing everywhere and car parts impaling them, and then seeing a girl who I thought was dead on the side of the street with blood everywhere, images I will never be able to get out of my head. But the smell was the worst part. The smell is something that is just painful to think about. And the overall panic - What do I do? Called 911, medics came, chopper came, but after all of that it was like what now? Who do I call? Where do I go? We went to the hospital and had to wait agonizing hours to hear what happened. Being in a hospital waiting room with kids running around everywhere, just a shitty situation.

frick drunk drivers. If you have ever driven drunk or plan on doing it in the future, save everyone the trouble go hang yourself now

Good thing the drunk driver died also, true justice. If he lived I bet he would have gotten a slap on the wrist.

Kids in high school need to be shown these images to discourage ever getting behind the wheel drunk because they now have tangible evidence of the effects of drunk driving.

The few times I have driven drunk I haven't been speeding. I don't get people who do that. I was the most careful drunk driver in the world. Signaling. Stopping at yellow lights. Doesn't make it okay. I'm older and I know better now, just mentioning.

I think we should do away with ALL mandatory sentencing and sentence people based on their past actions and not the one time they messed up.

It ruined my graduation. It happened 2 weeks before I graduated college. This event ruined me mentally for a few months. Blood coming out of one guy's neck like a lawn sprinkler. Blood oozing out of a guy's mouth, ear and nose like the waterfall on Willy Wonka.

Yet people think driving drunk is OK.

Think it depends on your location. I know in LA you can easily get away without serving any jail time for your first DUI offense. Pay some fines, community service and all is well.

Some states are def more stricter on it. AZ being one of them. You get a DUI and you automatically have to spend at least 10 days in jail for it. They will possibly let you out for work release(go to work and then report back to jail as soon as you get off work), but you are serving those 10 days.

It's comments like these that really hammer home how much idiocy there is out there. You saw a horrific accident that was the result of a drunk driver and now have a mass overreaction to the crime and the different variations of it.

There are horrific deadly accidents, jut like what you described, that are caused by distracted drivers that are in no way inebriated. Or simply from people speeding or driving recklessly. An extension of your logic would suggest that they too then should:

save everyone the trouble go hang yourself now

And you are a simple minded moron. I didn't justify anything, I pointed out the absurdity of your idiotic comments. You are only offering more validity to my post.

I think driving while texting should be more heavily penalized as well.

You get in an accident and it's proven you were driving and texting...you serve jail time

Awful story and I'm sorry for your loss, but that doesn't change the fact that DUI laws and their enforcement have to respect the rights of the accused, no matter how graphic the situation. Otherwise, what good is our legal system? What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
