While traffic is a headache in Baton Rouge, has it been the same the past 5 years or has it become worse?

If worse, what has caused it to be worse than 5 years ago?

Evidently the perception is.. Traffic is worse today than 5 years ago. 5 years ago it was just as bad IMO and it's not like there has been a huge influx of people who has moved into BR and the surrounding area.. So what would cause it to get worse?

It is bad but not as bad. Once I-10 is complete it should be light years better.

At least for my commute Essen has readily improved things.

It's a lot better than it was after the 2016 flood.

I-12 expansion was a big help.

There hasn't been an influx of people living in BR but are more people using I-10 and I-12?

False (though technically it did help the city of Baton Rouge), it just pushed all the traffic into LP

You forgot the part about a friend or something stuck in Baton Rouge traffic.

You're always going to have traffic if you have a weak public transit system, lack of connected bike pathways, lack of walkable neighborhood and crosswalks, and suburban sprawl. It’s not rocket science .

Traffic was shitty when Scruffy lived there 12 years ago.

It has gotten worse.

I’d say better. I got on 10 W at Sorrento 5 years ago and I’m almost to Highland now so it’s significantly less.

Definitely worse. from Port Allen to Prairieville in the afternoon takes me around 20 minutes longer on average than it did 5 years ago.

Agreed.

suburban sprawl
Exists in just about every metropolitan area, including Los Angeles and NYC. Y'all act like Baton Rouge is the only city in the country that has suburbs. Come on. That's not the problem.

The problem is that there are weak alternate routes to use for surface roads to get around town, so we all depend entirely too much using the interstate as a freeway. And it just so happens that the same interstate is a major artery stretching from one coast to the other that has traffic of vacationers, people going to various states, trucking and shipping, etc. In other words, it's not a good idea to rely on an already crowded interstate as a freeway for the city.

But the alternative is to use piss poor options (Airline, Florida, Siegen/Sherwood, etc.) with 98798089798897897 traffic signals that are either not synced up and/or sometimes it seems like they are synced to turn red after the already long traffic signal you've been sitting at finally turned green. Baton Rouge is not that big of a city (relatively speaking), yet it takes 45 minutes to an hour to get from one side to the other when it should take 20 minutes tops.

yet cities like Houston, LA. and Atlanta have all these things you think are gonna solve traffic issues. and their traffic sucks (albeit, I'd rather drive in Houston traffic than BR traffic).

Yes, BR has infrastructure deficiencies, but you still don't give enough credit to the shear stupidity of the people driving. No sense of urgency, distractions, and a lack of driving sophistication add to the traffic woes.

A lot of people moving out of East Baton Rouge to the surrounding parishes has caused an increase in the amount of vehicles using the interstate for their daily commute.

Drive past walker coming home in the afternoons

Also - traffic is way worse going into BR in the mornings starting at Juban

And since I am talking about it - AP sucks now once you get to highland in the afternoons

Expansion doesn’t do much when the population shifts further away - it just pushes the bottleneck further out
