You forgot the part about a friend or something stuck in Baton Rouge traffic.
If there was anything I had to make it, it sure as hell wouldn't be someone being stuck in traffic.
Right now traffic isn't as bad for obvious reasons (school is out, people on vacation, etc). But the whole intracoastal bridge and sunshine bridge situations made traffic worse temporarily, which is still fresh in people's mind when they are comparing traffic today from 5 years ago.
Someone mentioned more people using the interstate more. Is that a fact? I am asking because I really have no idea.
Whether it is the same as it was 5 years ago or has gotten worse, something still needs to be done, but like everything else in the state, money will be spent on projects that are less of a priority. While the talk of improving infrastructure on I-10 in the BR area will continue to go in circles.

It's been really bad since Katrina.
Yes. And since then, any little problem causes huge traffic problems.

That 1 lane on I-10 coming over the new bridge seems to be the same shitty situation that it’s been since it was opened 50 years ago

No dumb shite.
I was simply asking, while traffic was bad 5 years ago.. Is it worse now or is it more of a perception. And for those who say it is worse, what has caused it to get worse in the past 5 years.

Like the I-10 expansion around highland road, the pecue @ I-10 entrance/exit and expansion, and the currently being planned I-10 expansion by the bridge? I'm not sure how many other smaller projects like the brightside/nicholson area are currently going on. This shite doesn't just happen overnight so I'm not sure why you are under the impression nothing is happening

The problem is the fricking interstate runs smack dab through the middle of the city, just like in NOLA. A loop 50 years ago would have solved all of these problems.

Definitely worse than when I was in school from 2009-2013. I remember driving back in and out of town on the weekends and not having any traffic short of there being a wreck on the basin bridge. Now, traffic backs up at the bridge no matter what day it is.

Everywhere I look I see road construction

Don't know about 5 years ago, but as long as you don't have to cross the Mississippi it seems better than when I arrived in BR in 2007.
2007 = 2 lane I-10 from the split on out + I-12 3 lanes only out to Range Road (or maybe even Oneill?). In addition to single lane E/W surface streets (Perkins/Burbank).

That's a good point. Seriously. I'd say it's not that there is a lot more traffic, it's just that the traffic has to go around the construction (take other routes).

I say it's as bad as it was 5 years ago. Not any worse or better.

The clusterfrick of the MRB is still mortifying and unforgivable but I think it’s improved almost everywhere else
Spent the weekend in Austin and that is some serious nightmare traffic almost 24/7

Welcome to 2005, it's been this way for a while now.
I think that the construction on I-10 should eventually help this, BUT the idiots in AP refused to 4-lane LA 73 with turn lanes and instead opted to make it a 3 lane highway which is still a massive traffic clusterf&%k between LA 74 and Airline. AP did the same bullshite with LA 42 between Airline and Port Vincent.
I have seen some plans for additional interchanges, which would be a huge help to relieve the traffic on LA 73 (which will be extra shitty this summer with LA 621 being closed while they replace a bridge), but DOTD doesn't seem serious about starting any of those projects any time in the forseeable future.

If worse, what has caused it to be worse than 5 years ago?
Yes, it is worse today than it was 5 years ago but not by much. Five years ago traffic on 12 routinely became stop-n-go from around Essen to just after Airline, now it's more and more often just after the split until after Sherwood. I realize that is a bit anecdotal but it's an anecdote experienced daily by a shitload of people.
My guess as to why is due to a few factors:
1. Better economy - I10/12 is one of the major shipping arteries and travel thoroughfares in the South so as the economy improves, it gets more use.
2. Business growth - The Baton Rouge area (including P-ville, Denham, etc) had solid job growth for 3 years then began to slow down last year. Expectations are for more growth over the next two years (expectations of 6k new jobs in the area this year, 8,100 in 2020).
3. Out-migration from BR to surrounding areas - While jobs in and around Baton Rouge are plentiful, the shitty conditions of crime and schools within the city limits are pushing homeowners farther out. This means more cars on the roads for longer periods.

Does anyone know where you can go to get undated information on the MOVEBR projects? Looks like their website hasn't been updated since last year.
