Is poor handwriting a sign of the uneducated?

I work in retail, and sometimes customers have to fill out paperwork to complete transactions. I am always concerned when an adult comes in and their writing looks like a 5 year olds.
How can someone go their whole life not being able to write legibly? If my handwriting was that poor I would be really embarrassed.

I'm very well educated but my handwriting is pretty awful. Been that way my whole life.

I'm pretty sure that there are plenty of studies that prove the opposite. Enjoy working retail and complaining about handwriting, though.

Doctors prescriptions are different though, they have to fill those out all day. I'm more stating if someone had to write a long letter or document something. If another person then had to read that it would be tough.

Not at all. It's often a sign of poor motor skills, but that has nothing to do with cognition.

I have a signed copy of a book by Gen. Wesley Clark, former 4-star general and Supreme Commander, Allied Forces Europe. His educational credential are top-notch but his signature is unrecognizable.
Educated people these days are very good with a typewriter though, maybe your company needs to get with the times?
ETA: Do y'all even accept credit cards (much less Paypal or Square) or do you require a handwritten check for everything?

Possibly the highest IQ person I know has chicken scratch hand writing.

It is a sign of being under the age of 40. My handwriting is terrible yet I am quite educated. No one needs to write shite with a computer

I have absolutely awful handwriting. Almost indecipherable to anyone but me.
