Concern yourself with more important things.

I write a lot and sign a lot of docs. I carry a nice pen it wakes a world of difference.
I don’t really care who thinks it is pretentious. I also get compliments on the pens I use most of the time. People who think it’s pretentious are most likely jealous.
Unless it’s something like this - Crazy
then it might be pretentious.

It’s exceptionally pretentious but also an extreme power move

I don't remember this, but a buddy of mine told me in high school he showed me this pen told me it was a $200 pen. He said I threw it on the ground cause I didn't believe him and broke his Mont Blanc pen his dad gave him. Apparently I was a complete a-hole in high school.

I don't think so.
I've had an interest in writing instruments since my dad gave me a Mont Blanc for my birthday when I was 18.

Have a couple of nice pens that I got as gifts, mont blanc & a namiki. I know they're in a drawer in my office, but haven't really seen or looked for them in about 2 yrs.

If it's worth putting your signature on, it worth using a premium instrument.

On the OT, having a Mont Blanc is like having a pickup truck with a V8.
The Bic pens are the V6 Ecoboost.

An associate of mine made two pens from bone and gave them to me as a gift.
Really nice craftsmanship, I don't think they're pretentious at all.

Personally, I like the Pilot G2's, 1.0 tip.
Blue ink.
When I whip that baby out, people usually gasp and wonder how did I achieve such a position in life!!

I have a pen made out of wood from the USS Constitution. The mechanism isn’t great but I didn’t really buy it for that.
I have several Cross pens. I find cross ballpoint ink is extremely fluid and gives a good writing experience. Unfortunately the Classic Century pens hurt my hand after a while because they’re a little too narrow. Might try a Century II. I had an Easy Writer for years that i lost that was a great pen but they don’t make anymore. From a ballpoint pen standpoint there’s a huge difference between a premium pen and a Bic.
Now Gel pens? Pilot Precise V5 RT all the way. Have one clipped to my badge lanyard right now at work. All the premium gel ink I’ve tried sucks.

I have a Lamy fountain pen that I use everyday at work.
Yes, I am bumping this thread, but it's between Christmas and New Years and it's slow and I'm bored.
I just ordered a couple Lamy Safari fountain pens along with a Diplomat Magnum. Over this past year, have discovered fountain pens. For me, I enjoy them for a couple reasons
1-Yea, they are a little pretentious, but kinda like that. In my job, I take a lot of notes in meetings with co-workers and clients. I find, it's a sign that you didn't just grab a pen from the office supply closet, and to the customer, details are important. I also like to be just a little different than the herd of people, so perhaps pretentious is correct to a degree.
2-Once you get the hang of them, fountain pens actually write pretty damn good. I don't go out of my way to write anything, but when I do have to write something, I don't mind it as much. In my mind it has made my handwriting better.
I don't know that I will every spend a fortune on pens, but there is are some solid choices in the $10-$50 range. That's still a lot for a pen I know, but I feel like it's worth it. Life if too short to not find some way to enjoy everything you can. My motto is I work really hard so I can afford some luxuries now and then.

I bet they sell a lot more as gifts than for the buyer's personal use. I have given and received lots of nice pen sets over the years. But no Mont Blanc.

I lose a pen almost everyday. No way I’d spend big money on one
