The demographics at LSU have changed a lot in the last few years. 60% white, 19% black, 10% Hispanic.
Under Tate:
Blacks went from just over 13% in Spring 2021 to 19% in Spring 2025 for total on campus enrollment including undergraduate, grad/professional, & HS duel credit enrollees.
Blacks were also closer to 21% of the undergraduate enrollees in Spring of 2025 with whites in the upper 50 percentages, and this was after blacks had made up almost 27% of the fall 2024 freshman class (fall 2025 % of freshmen isn’t being pushed like usual by LSU for some reason until it has to with regular standardized reporting it seems).
2024 freshman class in fall was 26.8% black. In fall 2021 it was 18.8% black and in the fall of 2020 it was 16.8%. Increasing %s of increasing total enrollment numbers over the same years
The % of the enrolled new freshman students reporting ACT/SAT scores to use for admissions and scholarships declined to 47% in the fall of 2024. LSU actually pushes out a recommendation on what level of scores on ACT and SAT should be submitted.
* 43.1% of the 2024 freshman enrollees who did not submit an ACT or SAT score reported a 4.0 GPA.
* Almost 63% of the 2024 freshman class enrollees who did not submit an ACT or SAT score reported a 3.75 GPA or higher.
Federal grant need based aid, state need based aid, university funded need based aid/scholarships, and private need based aid/scholarships have all been increasing fairly quickly for total enrollment during the Tate years.

I went tailgating for the first time in years... felt like I was at a Southern game

It’s sad bc when I was at UK and at Auburn as a student I loved my visits to LSU.
Took my daughter down last year for a visit - zero chance would go to there. Ghetto AF.

This board infuriates me. All you LSU fans and alumni. Try forming your own opinion with actual knowledge of the Campus. There is nothing ghetto about it. They are always making improvements and updating the older buildings.
If you’re referring to the students. Thats an also dumb statement. It’s a nice mix of races. Go to the parades grounds on game day it’s pretty much the same as most state universities. The successful and intelligent students know how to avoid the “ghetto” or Riff Raff.
Should rename this messsge board “TigerHating”

I go to pretty much all the games and drive trough a large portion of campus to get to my parking spot. Most areas are still nice and fairly normal/safe. A couple areas are downright sketchy and full of people clearly not there to cheer for either team. During the game, campus looks like a ghetto block party. Now that can all be ignored as good clean fun by some, but ON-CAMPUS SHOOTINGS during 2 football games is completely unacceptable. That is the atmosphere that has been brought in. Changes need to be made.

This is not the issue.

Why does there HAVE to be a mix of races? Why should academic standards be adjusted to encourage a certain racial makeup? Do HBCU’s encourage diversity? Going to college is such a forced idea in general. Many students on campus have no business being there, but that isn’t some new thing. Entrance into college programs should be merit based. Who really cares what demographic makeup results from that policy?

these are crazy numbers. Really makes you wonder how much high schools are inflating GPAs. If these kids are getting such good grades in school, you would think they would have a decent enough ACT score that was worth submitting
Posted on 11/4/25 at 12:53 pm to dallastigers
Can you provide a source for these numbers?

The dirty little secret is that it's very common for a lot of these inner-city kids to graduate high school with a 4.0 but with something like a 16 on the ACT. LSU tells them to apply test optional. And because these students don't have ACT scores recorded in LSU's system, they aren't counted when LSU inevitably touts their "highest ever freshman ACT scores." It's a complete joke.

They should all be intelligent students. That's the point being made here

So right there it set her apart from a lot of the students who barely got accepted. Her major also set her apart from the disruptive students who came to party basically. That’s the point I’m making.

I definitely agree with students being only accepted by their merit. Period

We also need to attract students who will help increase our endowment in the long run (private school kids, kids from affluent areas and out-of-state kids), but with an emphasis on keeping Louisiana's best and brightest home.
LSU is doing next to nothing to keep these students. Bama and now Arkansas are benefitting from a lot of them. My own is at another SEC school and we have zero regrets. She’s the first not to attend LSU but we saw this coming and LSU was never really in consideration.
I really hope change is coming. It’s sad to see LSU catering to the lowest students while other schools are pulling them in with big scholarships.

Yes. DEI. Someone on here said the student body is 60% caucasian. Don’t see how that’s possible

The incoming 2025 fall freshman class was 48.6% white and 28.4% black as of most recently posted data.
I would have thought a new freshman class being below 50% white would be a first that might not be pushed as much as blacks increasing to 28.4% of the fall 2025 freshmen class, but relooking at the fall 2024 freshman class’s listed 50% for white freshman at the below link shows that % was rounded up for the % used on the graph. Last fall’s freshman class was 49.962% white, so whites have actually been under 50% of incoming fall freshman class the last 2 fall semesters in a row.
For a comparison the incoming 2015 fall freshman class was 72.5% white and 13.4% black.
Fall 2024 and fall 2025 freshmen class were 37.7% out of state using data at link below (by fee residence and not sure how any waiving of out of state fees are handled so could be a little higher).
I have not seen the 2025 freshman data for % submitting ACT or SAT scores for admissions and scholarships yet. I also haven’t seen LSU make these tests mandatory again for future classes yet.

While Tate sounded reasonable and moderate with public comments, behind the scenes he was pushing DEI hard in admissions.
Wow how times change.
I’ve been highly critical of Tate and my posts generally get massive downvotes. Yours got massive upvotes, so perhaps people are realizing what a charlatan he was at LSU.
