Is it wrong to spank your kids in public?

Personally I believe what you do behind closed doors is up to your own personal parenting styles as long as you don't cross the line into abuse but spanking in public is pretty trashy and should be frowned on for making a scene. Then again I don't have kids so maybe my opinion changes if I do. What does the OT say?

Wrong to spank them anywhere; unless you're a crappy, lazy parent.

Dad never hit me or my twin in public, he would give us numbers and we damn sure knew what that meant when we got home

It's not wrong necessarily but I preferred to handle things more privately.

nothing wrong with giving a kid a good whack in public if the behavior dictates it necessary. Most of us who aren't pussy snowflakes caught a lick or two in front of everyone. We turned out alright.

Now wailing on a kid in public is beyond trashy and should be considered as such.

Depends on what they did.

Spanking them just because you dropped your cigarette or ran out of beer = trashy

Spanking them because they just disobeyed you and made a giant mess at the grocery store = reasonably acceptable

A well placed pinch to the inside of the upper arm goes a long way in public.

Incorrect use of the semicolon.

My mother mastered "The Look." It would have struck fear into the heart of even someone like Stalin. When you got "The Look," you knew your arse was going to get whooped big time when you got home. And to make it worse, she wouldn't necessarily whip you as soon as we got home. It could be an hour...a day...a week...and just when you think she has forgotten about it...boom your arse got whooped and she would say "That's for acting up in Schwegmann's last week!"

Letting them know it's coming when it gets home is way more effective and less trashy. There was nothing i dreaded more as a kid then when I knew I was going to get my arse tore up when we got home.

This is something that I absolutely cant stand that parents do. My mom did this same shite and its just fricking stupid. If you are going to discipline a child, you do it when they know what they did. Having to catch the kid off guard in order to discipline them shows lack of control as a parent, especially with young kids. If you do that shite with a young child they typically will have no recollection of what they actually did and think you are just beating them bc you want to. Its chicken shite.

As fad as the question, I dont see a problem with a pop or two in public but Ive seen some situations where parents just went extremely overboard. Perfect example was a few weeks ago we are in church and sitting in the cry room. This lady dragged her kid in the bathroom and was just beating the hell out of this kid that couldn't have been more than 4 or 5. That shite is just uncalled for.

How is anybody to know not to mess with you if they don't see you laying a beating on an 8-year old?

If there were other easily accessible places, my mom would take advantage of them. No doubt everyone around could hear my pain though.

If a kid is being bad, they need to be dealt with. Idgaf how someone does it, just get it done.

People flip out if you hit a dog too
