Agreed

I'm gonna know what I'm getting into before I marry them and you never truly know someone until you live and travel with them.

My wife and I lived together and even had a joint bank account before we got married. Unfathomable, I know. Arbitrary morality aside, it sure was practical.

I'm still waiting for a nonreligious argument against it.

I actually bought a house with my future wife before we were married ... I did not live there until after the wedding ... I couldn't look my parents in the eye if I did ... It's just trashy

Compelling argument but I remain unconvinced.

That's fine .. Some will never be convinced .. But a true man wouldn't live with a women unless they were married.

Did you sleep with her before marriage?

Then surely you are able to articulate reasons why.

No matter how many times you repeat it, it doesn't make it true. Did you fall and hit your head today or something?

If a guy wants to stall marrying a chick....having her move in is one way to buy more time.
So that could be one argument against it if you are a woman wanting to get married/engaged.
My husband and I moved in a few months before we got engaged. We actually had said we both wanted to wait until marriage(for religious reasons), but the threat of layoffs at his work and both our leases coming up caused us to decide to live together.

Sounds like a good way for said chick to find out if he's serious about marriage.

For one it shows that you are afraid to commit to that person totally ... A huge red flag, IMHO
Posted on 2/21/16 at 7:36 pm to threeputt
Absolutely. It wasn't for this government issued piece of paper saying I love my wife, hell I'd a left her ages ago!

The question was about moving in before marriage, not without marriage. I'm not sure how combining households with another person shows less commitment than maintaining separate homes.
I'm not advocating moving in after a few dates. I'm thinking more of people in committed, long-term relationships.

Again I can't change everybody's mind ... But cohabitation to me is a classless act and shows a weak man .. Why not be a man and just wait until you get married
With marriage you make a pledge. Everyone knows you're married; it's a public declaration. In marriage, you're more likely to make sacrifices for your mate and to strive to make the relationship work. Additionally, divorce is costly, both emotionally and financially. By its very nature, cohabitation encourages a lack of commitment and independence, and is an easy out for the partner that wants to pack a suitcase and leave. It's just not the right thing to do IMHO

Signing a ease with someone is pretty much the exact opposite of not committing.

I'd love to know how waiting til after marriage makes you a real man. And I see you're still a aiding answering the question about sex before marriage. Hypocrite.
