For the average person, no.

For an OT Baller, yes.

FTR, all of my appliances are Thermador.

Currently have Samsung Refrigerator, Kitchen Aid Double Ovens, Fisher Paykel Dishwasher and Whirlpool 5 Burner Cooktop.

Go with whatever fits your budget.

Mismatching brands or mismatching colors?

I think mismatching brands is no big deal.

Mismatching colors looks terrible, which makes it trashy.

My Samsung dishwasher is quiet and cleans well but is a huge POS. I've repaired it a minimum of 50 times over its 8 year life. At least 40 of those involved disconnecting and removing to access it's nether regions. Those numbers are not hyperbolic.

Because each time it's a cheap fix as opposed to dropping a grand on the kitchenaid I want to replace it. It's a death by a thousand cuts.

If one is serious about food and cooking, as well as being a typical OT-Baller, one buys the very best tool for the job.

The kitchen appliances don't bother me as much. All of ours are white, and there was an electric stainless range installed when we moved in. I haven't thought much about it because I want to remodel the kitchen anyway.

A better question is, what about washers and dryers. I can't stand it when those don't match, down to not only the brand, but the look and style of the dials, colors, etc. I even made sure my rent house had matching ones when I picked them up of craigslist.

House we bought had a black d/w, stove and fridge but the fridge was in dire need of replacement. I picked out a dark slate one and think it looks fine and it blends in with our kitchen perfectly.

And no, I think we have different brands ... never even thought about it. Picked what we wanted.

I actually think it's usually pretty dumb to match brands unless you are going with a high end manufacturer. Even then, you may not be getting the best bang for your buck. You should research each appliance. If you do you will find that specific brands tend to be really good at some items and not so good at other. Even if you go high end, I think Salmon has the right idea. Purchase the appliance brand specific to the task just make sure to get a finish that you can match to the other appliances.

so should i mismatch and buy a different brand of fridge at the risk of being OT trashy?

It's not trashy to have different brands. It's trashy to have a fridge a different color than the appliances are.
