Jesus what type of shitty car do you have? I have a 1996 2Dr 4x4 Tahoe as a 3rd vehicle and I don't have rust and dirt falling in my eyes. Take car of your car better next time.
It takes more time and energy for me to take it somewhere. I usually do mine while I'm sitting around the house. It just takes a few minutes to pull the car in the garage, throw on some nitrile gloves and pull the plug and oil filter. I'll go inside and do whatever while it's draining. Might be 5 minutes, could be a couple of hours before I come back and put the plug and filter on and top it off. An equivalent oil change with 0w20 full synthetic and be bringing my own filter in because they normally don't carry my filter is $60-70.

That is what I'm paying today for a 0w20 full synethic change. I'll probably start doing it myself after today. The car just passed 80,000 miles so I want to start keeping a closer eye on it anyways.

Last time I took my vehicle in for a full synthetic oil change at a independent shop it cost me $85.00
Like you said I can buy the same oil from wal-mart for around $30.00 and I'm about to buy that Fumoto Drain Valve too.

Wife and I are both under warranty.
We have to pay for it.
But I'd pay for it anyway because I've got too much shite going on in my life to deal with that. Takes 10 minutes one day after work every 4-5 months to stop by a local place and its $60 for full synthetic with coupon. Not that bad IMO.

Like others have said, changing your own oil helps you keep an eye on your vehicles condition.
I can measure how much (if any) oil that my vehicles are using in between changes as well as look at the color an consistency of the oil.
I have sold two vehicles in a short amount of time because they were slowly losing oil. In contrast, I have kept several others for over 250K miles because they were performing perfectly.
I had to change the spark plugs in my wife's car and the rearfacing pugs required me to take off the entire wiper assembly and other parts. It was a pain in the ___ but I KNOW that all plugs were changed. If I dropped it off, they may have just changed the front ones.
I do not enjoy manual labor.
will pay someone to wash my car. I will pay someone to repair a seat or a convertible top or clean out cigarette smell from a prior owner.
I will not pay for maintenance on the engine. Too much $$ at risk.

I used to go to Speedee Oil to do my oil changes but have since done them myself with my new car. Have no complaints whatsoever with them. Main reason is I don't want them topping up my fluids with generic crap.

My oil plus and filter are extremely accessible (probably the best DIY setup I've ever seen) but I can't get underneath my car easily and I don't feel like having to dispose of 8 quarts oil.

Mine is right over the power steering rack. Therefore my power steering rack has a nice coating of used synthetic motor oil.
