It's obvious you have never changed oil before sweetheart. Maybe go get a mani and pedi instead next time. That's def worth it

I agree (in most cases). I could change the oil in my Explorer in less time than the Jiffy Lube people could. I bought a 4-wheel-drive 4Runner a few years back, though, and it took me an hour to figure out how to get the steel oil pan/tranny guard off the first time I changed it.
You can't get to the filter unless it's removed.

Yes it is. Also, how do you KNOW your oil and filter is even changed? Or if it was, did they over-tighten the drain bolt causing the pan to warp?

Don't go to jiffy lube. Go to a real mechanic and have him change the oil and rotate the tires every time.
It's way too much work to rotate tires. That's why I don't change my oil. Both have to be done at the same interval anyway.

All of these are businesses that I'll help keep in business.
If I'm feeling up to it, sometimes I'll change mine myself, as it is pretty easy in my car. If I had a difficult car, I'm definitely bringing it in. Call that what you want: lazy, stupid, not "manly", I don't care. Maybe when I have more than one car, and the savings are significant, I'd think about doing it myself. I prefer to spend my time on other things, though. The mistakes are few and far between. Stay away from walmart, and use coupons/specials if you are that worried about saving the money. I'm certainly not going out in the Louisiana heat to change my oil and rotate my tires. I'm paying someone to sweat their arse off all day, and typically supporting a local small business. That's a win-win.

I use Royal purple and OEM filters so no it's not cheaper. I look forward to inspecting my vehicles though and trust only tire and wheel and body work to outside shops.

I do it myself on my vehicles.
I get the oil and filter for my truck for about $24.00
They usually charge anywhere between $45.00-$55.00. They always want to charge me for that 1 extra quart.
I get the synthetic oil for my wife's Honda for $34.00
They charge about $80.00 for a full synthetic change.
I know what oil I'm putting in there and it's not too much trouble to do it.
I buy 5 gallon buckets from Walmart and dump all the old oil in there. When it gets full I go turn it in at Walmart.

I just spent 60$ at the dealership but 28$ of that was the filter. Don't always go to the dealership.

I stopped going to the dealership once the warranty expired.
Near my office, my only options are chains, so I use Firestone. It is frustrating to have to use a chain, but they haven't let me down...yet.

No. Get a Fumoto drain valve and an oil canister with a sealing top (sold at Walmart)...run plastic tubing from the drain valve to the canister and drain the pan. Simple and mess free. Then take the canister and dispose of the oil at any auto parts store or mechanic shop. Worst part of an oil change is the filter swap...I've only got like two that I've done and managed to spill 0 oil. As for price, I use 7 qts Penzoil Platinum 5w-30 @ around $38 and a $12 filter...so $50 to do it myself. I think most shops charge at least $70 for a full synthetic 7 qt oil change.
ETA: this is the canister I use, it was $7 or so at Walmart.

yeah I am still under warranty for a couple more years. usually go to 5 minute so I don't have to get out of the car.

AutoZone, Advance, O Reilly... Just walk to the back and pour it in their recycling container free of charge.

I highly recommend them. Mine came with some piping which allows you to direct the flow of the oil if the pan isn't directly underneath.
