Trad climbing, whitewater canoeing, backpacking, sailing, and way too much acoustic guitar.

Depends on how good you want to get at any one hobby. Unless you're naturally gifted, thick skinned enough to be mediocre, or possess the yen to remain terminally single.

Being curious about something and trying new things isn’t a hobby.

A hobby is something you do in your spare time regularly

Hobbies begin as curiosities. Some stick and become regular things. Some eventually run their course and are replaced by new ones. Some get put aside temporarily and later returned to.

Mine get get out of control. I like the learning process so once I think ive gotten good at something I tend to lose interest and move on to something else. The only constant one is hunting. Pretty much everything else gets set aside come October. My wife is pregnant with our first so I've been selling off all my shite that I won't have time for anymore.

If your hobbies aren't destructive or keep you from your wife/kids too much i dont think there could be too many.

I’m sure it’s possible to have too many hobbies. But I do firmly believe everyone should have at least one. Doesn’t matter what it is, as long as thy have something constructive and engaging to do where they can totally unplug from the worries and stress of everyday life. Everyone needs needs somwtihgn like this.

For me, it’s building scale models. For others it could gardening, woodworking, fishing, hunting, hiking, or restoring an old car, etc., etc.

For some years I squirrel and deer hunted, fished mostly for bass, and had beagle rabbit dogs.Spread myself. a little too thin.Had enough success to keep me from getting discouraged but never excelled at any of them.

Search out hobbies until you find something that is your natural draw. Experiencing new things at the very least gives context to complexity and benefits. Plus learning is always better than not learning.

I am getting back into fitness which lessens trivia nights at bars and have lessened traveling for football games with hunting and hiking. Looking to take up SCUBA and learning radio, but still trying to find the true passion. Maybe I never will find it, but I will do interesting things in the quest.

It is possible to have too many. Available time is finite.

Currently I enjoy recording and editing audio. I have a huge playlist of original and cover songs performed by very talented but mostly obscure singers and musicians. Still do a little photography and creative photographic art, but that's become much less frequent.

In earlier days it was physical competitive sports when the body was younger and able, and collecting art until I no longer had walls to hang it or space to store it.

Depends on how expensive they are. Being into guns, golf, poker, and bourbon is a bigger problem than being into volunteering, reading, jogging and bird watching.

Book collecting was my most costly habit for a while. Had to get out of that.

Have you been diagnosed with ADHD? Collecting hobbies is a classic symptom.

I live with someone like this. There is easily 100s of thousands of dollars in discarded hobbies at my house. Reef tanks, guitars (amps, and other equipment stacked everywhere), mountain bikes, pizza ovens, cheese making equipment, wheat grinding equipment, remote control cars, a room filled with discarded canvases/paints/easels, workout equipment…….

He is 100% ADHD.

Read this post subject when next to another one “Man surfs naked on train”.

Another potential hobby for you…

I'm busy as hell. Once I'm done with work, teenager and house responsibilities, all I want to do is sit on my arse.

Yes, you can have too many hobbies. Mine included music (writing, recording in a 64 track home studio), surfing, SCUBA, fishing, firearms and shooting, woodworking, and fly fishing. It got to the point that they were interfering with each other. Had to trim it back to fly fishing, firearms, and woodworking. (I may have to switch from woodworking back to the music studio though. I miss that more than I thought I would.)

I have not. I don't tend to quickly adopt and discard hobbies though. I tend to stick with most I take on--at least for some length of time.

I used to be that way… then I started a business. Now I’m a burnt out shell of a man. I’d love to get back to too many hobbies instead of none.

I have several hobbies ranging from pickleball to road trips. I also am a collector and my collecting interests keep expanding. Home now looks like a museum. Plus the cost of framing and preserving my collections is getting expensive. Hate to think my relatives will trash it all when I die
