After the ozone, cut up an apple, put it on a plate on the dashboard.
Sounds crazy, but it helps. I ran over a skunk once, and that's how I got the smell out.

Can't believe that no one has mentioned changing the cabin air filter.
That can go a long way in changing how the interior of a car smells...
it was in the OP

There are many products that work pretty well. Get an auto a/c duct cleaner that foams up.
Here’s an example:
A/C Pro Air and Duct Cleaner
It will drain through the condensation line. They also help remove mold buildup which can block the condensation line, causing a leak in the cabin.
I’ve had good success with them.

Ozone machine or slightly less effective but cheaper and easier is small cans of Ozone Fog you can find at auto parts store. Read instructions in either case.

Another reason why smoking weed is superior to smoking cigarettes. The weed may smell initially, but it never sticks to the inside of a vehicle. Can always get weed smell out. Cigarette smell is forever.

I can get a 2021 CRV with 20k miles for $29k.
But it squeezes my monthly budget too much.

If you live in New Orleans area look up Deoderizeit . They have a giant ozone generator that takes up the in side of a van.

I bought a 2019 Subaru Outback at CarMax in one day for 26k. Go to carmax if you have one

I'd go for a 2017-2018 crv. i bet you can find a decent lowerish milege vehicle in your range. '17 was first year in that redesign. '22 is the last.

Irrespective of the cigarette smell, I wouldn’t get a Nissan with a CVT. Those are notoriously bad transmissions that may cause you a lot of future headache.
Posted on 7/22/22 at 9:49 am to StringedInstruments
The CVT transmission doesn’t concern you?

Try Ozium to start. If that doesn't work an ozone generator would be the best option.
FYI: Ozium also works wonders on the dead mouse smell.

You should buy that and flip it considering that’s a good 5-6k below market value.
The cheapest 2021 CRV on a nationwide carmax search is 33k. Average price is 36k

Would be a stretch. Good ones with less than 40k miles are still upper 20s low 30s

Ozone or ionization machines or whatever they are called can do it. But it will have to be taken to a professional detailer to get it done. And nothing will work if the cigarette smell is too heavy.

It could be worse. It could smell like b.o.
