My sisters got $10 an hour to babysit back in 2000-2004
So 20 years later, what exactly do you think it’s worth?
Maybe you are the one “retarded”

Yes, you would be correct in saying that the figure heads are boomers, but all in the back ground doing all the work is 20-30 somethings. If you don't believe that they don't have some type of influence on policy, well then.... I have some ocean front property to sale you in Arizona.

You’re asking if they’re “retarded” for not wanting to make $30k a year?
With the benefits listed in the OP that’s easily worth $50k a year. Wait till those shitstains have a couple kids and realize that health insurance can be more important than salary.

They are working the demand part of the equation.

Whatever the babysitter and the parent agree upon.
Wages aren't arbitrary. My oldest daughter got $100 for 3 hours in 1998, but that doesn't mean its' prevailing wage.

I don't believe these people are that grown up. They're the incels of the world.

These kids expect $25 hr+ to do menial tasks in an entry level warehouse position. I said what about the benefits? No care, it's all about their paycheck every 2 weeks.
We get it. You started out in that job at $4 an hour back in the 80's. Time goes on, old man. Everything costs more now.
If you can't keep the position filled, there's a good chance you're not paying enough.

If anyone would know, its people who have been here from the 80s to the present.
We've probably been through double the economic downturns that you have.

man way too many people in this thread are out of touch unfortunately because of this.
labor is expensive as frick right now and long time employees either need to realize that or take advantage of the situation and get another offer.

Which is one reason for the pending recession. When labor is expensive, less is purchased.

You're certainly right about that.
My background was in the HVAC trade and residential/light commercial construction. I'm not a tradesman now, but I work with welders and mechanics now.
These are guys that have seen their wages frozen since the 80's. A lot of them have Gen Z kids, and they probably tell them to make decisions about money first.
I wish my parents had given me that kind of advice.

My friends Daughter thinks she should get $15.00 an hour to babysit... She has another friend who wants 22.00 an hour. Yes.. They are retarded.
The one who wants $22 better add a bunch of value.

I mean, I didn’t really give a shite about benefits when I was in my early 20’s, other than vacation/PTO time.

Most don't (Myself included) until the hospital bill comes due.
Benefits like insurance were added to wage packages when the gubment froze wages during WWII. I'd wait to see how this looming recession shakes out, I have a feeling things are going to change.
20 somethings are shortsighted, yes. We all were.

Since when do HS students have student loans?

What is the realistic manual labor rate for people with zero college hours?
I can tell you this...just one really good picker/puller in a warehouse environment that you can trust, gets there every day on time, willing to help in other areas, and works to be better, etc. is worth every bit of 3 "regular Joes" in the same position. $25/hr is a fricking steal for those kinds of people, and I don't care how many college hours they've accrued

yep, which is why I believe in merit pay.
Good employees should be well paid, shitty ones shouldn't. Arbitrary wages are dumb.

Mainly caused by our government.
I think this is the crux of it. The high prices and high wages have come so suddenly and not organically that it’s hard for some folk to wrap their heads around. And since it came so quickly it has the feel of a bubble that surely must pop at some point.
