2% make min wages. No, they are not arbitrarily set.

They are set according to the type of employee you want, and what it takes to get them to work. Unfortunately government has created a hardship for people who run small business.

Arbitrary: based on random choice or personal whim, rather than any reason or system:

2% may make minimum wage, but the minimum wage is set across all 50 states to a number, so yes, wages are arbitrarily set with at least minimum.

I won't rail on this any longer so we don't derail this thread on such an 'arbitrary' thing since we mainly agree with the premise that arbitrary wages are dumb, as you stated already in this thread:

Wrong. Most wages are higher than min wage.

Overwhelmingly.

Sex and the City, and Friends did a number on certain people.

They think they can live some urban care free existence in the cafe's all day long with no individual responsibility, or even stable employment.

29 pages so a lot of this may have already been said.

1) For a young kid out of HS, they can stay on their parents Health Insurance until age 26. Depending upon how good the parents plan is / cost compared to your company plan, this may make this benefit not worth much.

2) Anyone making $15/hr is going to struggle to contribute to a 401K (to get the match). They are also not going to have the cash flow to buy stock, or to buy new vehicles at a discount.

So yeah, for that age group, it is all about the paycheck.

They don't know enough to be retarded.

Probably half the posters in this thread cannot understand inflation and its causes.

I would say that it's way more than half. Majority seems to think that employers have a magic money machine and the only reason they don't pay more, is because they don't want to.

Imagine you cut yards. You have 10 yards that you cut for an average of $50/yard. Word gets out that you do a great job, and your prices are reasonable. You start to get a lot of calls and your business grows to the point where you have to hire help. You hire a couple of people and your business triples. Then along comes the government. Makes decisions that triple your fuel costs and makes parts for your equipment extremely hard to get. Your guys want more money due to increase in inflation. So, you raise your prices to $75/yard. You end up losing 10 customers who now see the service as unaffordable. What's the first thing you do? That's right, LAY OFF AN EMPLOYEE! Sad thing is, at this rate, in the scenario above, the guy will end up back with no employees and less than the 10 yards he started with.......until the market corrects itself. That's when you will really see the pain.

Does everyone really think all those self-checkout lanes everywhere are just because the place doesn't want to hire people?

Which is unfeasible for most small business and why we are headed toward a recession.

People are dumb. They don't realize many small businesses are closing doors and are incapable of understanding the landscape.

Oh look, a thread where several (admittedly) poor people who don’t have a lot of money explain to others how money works.

Love it

You need it.

"Poor people" understand that if you don't have the money, you can't pay it. You don't understand that.

Retarded people like you think extra wages will come out of profit. The consumer ultimately pays.

Or they just skip the low paying employers and find a better paying job.

You pay more money, you get better work. You pay less, you get less. This is the market setting labor rates. That's capitalism. Companies that can't afford quality labor need to modify their business model. Adapt or die.

Bingo.

However, most people aren't capable. Thats why they whine about the low wages they receive.

Most would rather bitch than succeed.
