Not necessarily true. But only in certain fields. I know a bunch of people in IT/Security that only have certificates and/or work experience and are making $$$$ without a degree
It’s almost like you assembled a list of possible reasons not end all reasons for every case and I added another reason for some people

Should mention this warehouse is in the burbs. Not like they need to live in downtown Houston

started with my company making $16.00 20 years ago. I think $15.00 is fair for the kinda work you’re talking about but it depends on who you’re asking about the position.
What year?

Your company needs to reconsider its compensation structure for young employees.
Do you really think someone on only $15/hr is going to take advantage of car discounts and a 6% 401K match?
Hell I’m 25 making close to $100K total comp, and I don’t contribute 6% because I feel I have to save a ton outside of retirement to ever have a chance to afford a house down payment.
It’s crazy how out of touch people are on inflation.

IQ's are starting to drop in many developed countries. Not sure if this is a real phenomenon or just the massive influx of immigrants.

In reality, no one will take that $15 an hour job because they can't make a living on it today.
Could you have walked out of HS and into a job where you could afford to live on your own and take care of yourself? I don't think I could have in the 90s.

Instantly self-supporting isn't too big an ask, is it?
Depends on the value you bring to the table.
That on you.

HUGE mistake. 100% return instantly plus time value of money.

Zillow search for rentals in Conroe-
Fourth result- 2 bd apartment for $1149. Riverwalk.
With a roommate, $574/m.
With a badass pool too.
There's probably better deals too.

You can't afford to live with someone else and take care of yourself on $15/hour.

OP says the company can't fill the position. That's on them.
My suggestion is to offer self-supporting wages. This is not difficult.

Yeah posting a paragraph for a non-socialist NEET means it is unreadable for most of gen z

I just wouldn't value health insurance really.
Few value health insurance until they need it.
Many 20-somethings only see insurance in term of illness and never injury.
No one ever plans to get into a car wreck and spend 6 weeks in ICU and 9months in rehab.

$100 a month for utilities, which is low.
Plus cell phone, coverage only no monthly payment for phone. $30
Groceries - $200
Gas - $200
Misc - $250
You'd have about $900 a month left over before any taxes taken out or insurance premiums, etc. And all of my estimates are likely low, with no car payment or disposable spending.

The benefits probably add at least another $15k to the starting wage. I guess I was different when I was in my early 20's b/c I valued getting in with a good company and working my way up. Didn't want to be a 22 yr old working in fast food.
You could live in those days. Now, not so much.

I mostly agree but thinking back on it, I couldn't have found a job right out of HS that would have paid me enough to take care of myself in 1996 either. Maybe with 2 roommates.

Awww, sweet stories, Ma'am. It's always touching when an older couple is able to sit and reminisce about their early days and the stories passed on to them by their parents and grandparents, and how they passed on having children in order to pay for vacations. Really touching.
But it's all irrelevant to the topic at hand, which is that the OP's offer is not viable for a single adult in the market where the job is posted, let alone competitive for good workers who can pass drug and background checks.
If the offer was competitive, it would've been filled pretty quickly in a city with a daily influx of people moving here for work.
