The Voltron Crew ran Baton Rouge with an iron fist in the late 90s.

Large criminal organizations are not connected to current BR street gangs. There are Latin Gangs and cartels operating in BR but they are doing their own thing. The street violence all starts with a disrespect on social media or in a rap song that becomes back and forth shootings. These street gangs aren't even really doing any organized major criminal activity other than shooting at each other. Their grandmothers buy them their guns and challengers.

Yes

What happens is the media and the scum they are, won’t report that stuff because they don’t want people to know what really occurs and knows it only shows black violence.

Then white folks live in their bubble and have no clue that it’s really not that safe out there and think that magically their neighborhood makes their living situation super safe

In Baton Rouge in the 70s, the city’s quirkiest “gangs” heard rumors about a mythical Fanta vending machine by the Mississippi River, spitting out free sodas forever. Eager to claim it, three rival groups made their way to the riverbank: The Crawfish Crackers, The Bayou Bedazzlers, and The Beignet Brawlers. Each crew had their own strange weapons: the Crackers carried crawfish paddles and cayenne dust, the Bedazzlers had glitter-covered brass knuckles, and the Brawlers launched powdered sugar bombs.

They arrived only to find the machine was out of order, and then realized they had a bigger problem—getting back to Sherwood Forest Boulevard meant crossing through rival gang territory.

Their first ambush came under the I-10 bridge, where The Riverbank Recliners lounged with iced-tea water balloons, pelting the gang from lawn chairs. They escaped only to be stopped by The Pothole Posse on Highland Road, a gang of pothole fanatics who’d barricaded the street with traffic cones. The gang dodged the barricades and pushed through to College Drive, where The Mall Bayou Bandits challenged them to a fashion face-off, until the Bedazzlers dazzled them with insults.

Their last hurdle was The Shoe Shed Stumblers on Airline, who wore clownish shoes and hurled giant foam sneakers. But the Crackers took out their cayenne dust, forcing the Stumblers to retreat, coughing and sneezing.

Finally, the ragtag gang limped onto Sherwood Forest Boulevard at sunrise. Tired but victorious, they shared a laugh, forever bound by the wild night they took on every oddball crew in Baton Rouge.
