There are two kids I know that are being bussed from Burbank apartments to Tara High. Asked them why they can’t go to McKinley or something closer and they said they didn’t know.

They must be in apartments E of Gardere because W of Gardere along Burbank is McKinley's district. The intersection of Gardere and Burbank is essentially equal distance from Tara and McKinley at 6.5 miles.

This part of town has to travel further since their neighborhood school (Liberty formerly Lee) 5.5 miles recently became a Magnet School.

As I thought, it never ended. EBRBP have some sinister agenda to keeping these 50 years old bussing and zoning maps. Most children are much happier going to schools closer to their home.

Not true! They went back to neighborhood schools when the deseg case ended in early 2000's go look at school maps instead of believing anecdotal stories posted on here.

Yes, and conversely, I went to an expensive private high school that was probably about 95% white and 5% black, yet was located in the middle of a black ghetto. I guess that the neighborhood was different when they built the school and they never bothered to move the school when the neighborhood declined.

It was a good school, but the walk to your car after school could be interesting.

Sounds like Holy Cross in New Orleans pre-Katrina.

Tara is a great neighborhood. 99% of the kids go to private schools or dedicated magnet programs

What's there to desegregate? It's all black.

Right but I think they secretly screw up the attendance maps to keep it black.in the spirit of desegregation which was a complete failure. Most kids segregate by race at desegregated schools anyway

Even if they weren't busing why would you send your kids to EBR public schools?

If they weren’t being bussed in from north Baton Rouge, they would be much better schools… schools with more whites and Asians are typically far better schools.

Once upon a time EBR schools weren’t that bad. Until the culture started taking over

Putting your kid on a public school bus in South Louisiana should be considered child abuse

I am just here to remind everyone that Judge John Parker was a cocksucker and a mother fricker and hopefully he is rotting in hell.

Carry on.

There are some neighborhoods with public schools in BR that I would consider nice that are close to campus but as a general rule, you are right on. Even the public schools I speak of attract the worst types of people. It’s not possible to send your kids there and expect an education

It’s mainly due to the reasons there are so many charter and private schools. BR just likes to show off how wonderful their infrastructure is and can handle all of those extra cars and busses criss crossing the city.
