Seems to me that most all conflict occurs with conflicting differences between people - most notably race and religion. So, is diversity a good thing - or are places like CT, MN and OR better because they are more homogenous?

The more diverse it gets here, diverse it gets.

It's just another name for quotas. The left just keeps playing this game with the Supreme Court to keep an unconstitutional scam going.

There was just a mass murder in Oregon so it seems your thesis of homogeneity leading to a peaceful place might need a little more weed...um, critical thinking.

as I see it, true diversity is good...adds different perspectives to a situation and also generally results in a more open-minded approach from all involved...

on the other hand, forced diversity generally just divides people more than if things were left alone...

Competence is. If "diversity" comes with that, then fine.

A great place for this discussion is on a SEC football message board populated with racist, uneducated, lower-middle class white bigots who blame all their failings on "libtards", "Obummer", and "blacks."

Your bio says you're a teacher, which I find to be the saddest fact of all.

I guess it depends on how radical people are about their religion, race, etc.

But when someone feels that they are superior and that their way of believing and living is the only right way to live, then conflict is bound to occur when they encounter others.

If all of the diverse people can have common ground of respecting others even if they don't see it the same way, then diversity can be a very enjoyable and enlightening experience.

Well, when I see the USA lead in murders of all domesticated countries and have a very large and diverse community, I cannot help but believe this is part of it. People live with people who look like them. And to all those Northern elites, why do you think many of them live there in the first place?

I think it's probably wiser for people of similar culture or ethnicity to stay together; however, I don't think diversity in and of itself is a bad thing. If you're willing to accept all the negatives that come with being a minority, go wherever you want.

What I don't like is forced diversity in the workplace or this idea that we should encourage diversity because diversity is inherently good.

That's the joke. It's more verbal.

Why is diversity good? Most people hang out with people who look like them. What is the addition to your life someone of another background play to you?

Really - the only answers can be diversity makes things better or worse. I am not sure I see too many people who say this massive amount of diversity in the USA is making things better. Most just say, deal with it.
