Without diversity, we wouldn't have private schools, for-profit prisons, or fajitas. Mmmmmm, I love fajitas.

Actually this is false.

People don't hang out with people who look like them. Blue eyed people don't look like brown eyed people.

Women don't look like men.

Engineers don't look like plant operators.

People who drive sedans don't look like people who drive trucks.

Italian people don't look like Irish people.

It's just social conditioning makes some differences less important than others.

Diversity is just when something seems differnt because it hasn't been smoothed out by social pressures.

"Diversity" is a meaningless propaganda term. It has literally no meaning aside from, I guess, the very superficial idea that a person's identity is governed by their race and ethnicity, and the more different kinds of these people you have, the better. The whole idea is vapid, hollow communism.

People do tend to prefer to be around people that look and think like them. Depends on the person whether it's more look than think maybe, but people that look alike often think alike in my experience.

If anything it's diversity that's learned and unusual. Again this is just my experience but people that claim to prefer diversity are usually referring of superficial things like food choices. Most people that are supe liberal don't want to live around conservatives and vice versa. We like to stick to our own.

Diversity of thought and perspective within a group is a good thing as it helps develop and vet ideas.

Diversity of skin color in of itself is useless.

It's not though. There are numerous tribal and ethnic differences in Africa.

Well we're a diverse society. We can either try to make that a strength or let it be a weakness. I prefer strength.

I don't know the answer to your question but I will say this......I lived in upstate NY till I was 16 and up till then had never heard or been told there was any difference between blacks , whites , hispanics , etc.. At
16 I moved to Nashville and it was a different world when it came to race. Granted ...there were not many people where I came from that were not white but there were enough that had it been an issue I would have been in the know. Diversity , racism , etc. is a southern thing. In my opinion , it kinda goes hand in hand with education. Every thing in the south (I love the south by the way , but not for its lack of education or lack of decency) is way behind. I was learnt stuff in high school in TN that I had learned in 5th or 6th grade in NY. The problems here in the south are not problems in other parts of the country, the South is just packed full of asshats with little to no education! Even you college educated southerners. You don't stand a chance against a Yankee with a degree. That's a fact! It's not your fault. Blame the dumbass generations before you. Then try to make a difference for your children and the generations coming long after yours.

Good post. The lack of education of all types of people in the south definitely plays a part because ignorance is the leading cause of racism. Imho.

Diversity allows for a wide range of areas to be covered, particularly if it is complimentary diversity. However, it also provides a lot of natural fault lines for friction and conflict.

Diversity for diversity's sake is a fool's errand.

Diversity in skills, thoughtful perspective, thinking and learning styles, capabilities, interests, preferences that enhances a community, office, military unit, etc., is generally a good thing.

It's the only cause. Problem is each generation down here in the south continues to pass on the same stupid shite over and over again. And it's not just blacks or just hispanics in the south , the whites are just as uneducated as the rest. And then they wonder why people from the north look down on them. Well because southerners are blind to the fact that the education levels in the south are pure garbage!

I think classifying people by race and then declaring that people can't be diverse if they are the same race, is a big problem.

What does this mean? I hear the word "ignorance" tossed around in every discussion of race. What ignorance are you talking about?

Whites are often leery of blacks Bc predominantly black neighborhoods and schools are, almost as a rule, dirty and dangerous.

Blacks are often leery of whites Bc of history and the feeling that whites want to bring back slavery or Jim Crow.

And that's pretty much it IMO.

You also have to throw in the educational funding that goes to the northern states versus the southern states. New York is heavily funded due to it large population and other northern states such as Rhode island, Vermont do well with less because of the racial makeups. Southern states have larger number of minorities and less funding. There are reasons and statistics on why the south is less educated and more racist. We got to look at the whole picture.

Lego it's simple not all blacks are racist and not all whites are racist. Education allows people to see this clearer. You look past the ignorance of the media and the race baiting that goes on. Judge people as INDIVIDUALS not as black or white. Trust me there are alot of things that make people who they are: how they were raised, past experiences, etc.

I'm not arguing with any of that. I'm just asking what ignorance are you talking about? I see the word used almost as a synonym for racism.

That it is. Go to the ghetto most of these areas are filled with uneducated people Or go to a little town out here in central florida filled with trailer parks. Ignorance everywhere. Whitey is bringing us down, rebel flags, etc. EXCUSES. Most educated people people don't live there and avoid these areas for a reason.

Definition of ignorance- lack of knowledge or information. These groups seem to have plenty of ignorance and blame each other for alot of their problems.
