Getting a flat isn't really a question of if, but when.

So you carry one in case you need it because you know it can be extremely useful, right?

Pro gun, not died hard “you’ll have to pry it out my cold dead hands” type, but I carry daily, I practice monthly, I have it to protect myself, my family and my employees because there are predators out there just looking for an easy target. It’s not a pessimistic view, it’s reality.

He carries it because he knows he will need it at one point or another.

never taken the step of carrying on my self. I guess I've always felt like the day I do is the day I admit to subscribing more to a pessimistic view of life and people than otherwise

Me either, because I carry a gun.

I've been driving for 20 years and I've never gotten a flat tire. Doesn't mean I won't need one in the future.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m not adequately trained. I do, however, carry a weapons retention tool that would do some serious damage if someone were to approach me & my two toddlers... and it’s damn near impossible to take away and turn on me due to its design. Highly recommended for those not comfortable carrying a gun.

So what are your reasons behind the decision to carry or not carry daily?

I've probably considered it more recently than in the past. I work in a high-crime area, but because I work at a school I couldn't have my gun on me outside of in my car (which kind of defeats the purpose since my highest point of vulnerability is walking to and from my car).

I do carry mace on me and a knife. Especially when I am exercising outside at the park. We've had multiple women in town approached in parks, have had women raped/assaulted near work in alleyways, etc. So I'm pretty cognizant of that.

The reality is, when you see our criminal justice system treat drug dealers tougher than rapists then it definitely makes you think twice about not carrying.

I see the point you're trying to make, but I don't know that it's an equivalent example. One deals with the uncertainty/shelf life of a mechanical object and the other deals with the perceived innate violent or peaceful nature of human beings.

Do you think that everyone should carry? Do you think the world would be safer if that was the case?

Ok, I've always had a 1st aid kit in my car and I've never needed to use it. Doesn't mean I shouldn't carry one. I just don't see how adding a layer of protection to yourself or your family is having a pessimistic view of the world. Hell, I'm sure you have a fire extinguisher in your house. What are the chances that your house could potentially catch fire? Probably pretty minuscule.

Incredible insight. Yes, concealed carry folks typically wear skin tight clothes. You must be some kind of genius I tell you.
